Distance around 295 KM
Duration by road around 6 hours
Overnight train is there, starts from Jodhpur around 11.30 and early morning you are at Jaisalmer

Buses are leaving hourly from Private Bus Stand near Bombay Motors - the journey will take around 5 to 5 and a half hours.
Car travel is 4 hours if you don't stop. Add on stopping time for a break and there is your full time. The roads are excellent.
Government buses are not as good as private in regard to comfort.

A small Indica will cost around 2,500 rupees, without a/c slightly less. The advantage is you could go via Osiyan and Khichen (which i have yet to do!)- one is temples and other is Siberian cranes and I think you could also call into Manvar halfway which is fabulous and I'm always recommending it as a nice toilet stop and pick me up tea, lunch sort of place.

Pokoran is on the direct Jodhpur - Jaisalmer route. Fort Pokoran was recommended to me as a good place to stay, has nice swimming pool, is a heritage property, and good restaurant. Other than that - there is not far away Ramdeora Temple, quite interesting.

Bombaytite - hotels are booking up rapidly for these dates and also prices are astronomical. Check out listings on Hotels here on IM - if you fail to get anything outside the Fort then I suggest you go there as less Indian tourists go inside the fort and these are the bulk of tourists at this time of the year. There are literally busloads and busloads of them travelling here on these dates!!

We are presently having some very mild weather after a chilly spell. Days are sunny and pleasant but nights will get cold. Bring your jacket and topee! I think this warmer spell is going to soon turn much colder - it often feels like this before the next lot of snow and winds coming from the mountains bringing icy chills to Rajasthan.

Will have to tell you Bombaytite - the weather changed a bit this morning! Very cloudy, spots of rain occasionally but not much, and now quite cooler. So yes, some of the winter woollies will be a good idea. Looked at Forecast and it says sunny from Tuesday onwards, so temp. will rise again then.
