Jodhpur-Jaisalmer Bus
I plan to visit Jaisalmer and Jodhpur in late December.
The idea was to take trains but it turns out that the Jpdhpur-Jaisalmer train is fully booked in late Dec. So I need to think of alternatives. Does anybody have an idea of comfortable buses running between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur? Either State Transport or private operator will do but they must be comfortable. |

You might consider the local train, which leaves Jodhpur at 08:40 and arrives in Jaisalmer at 16:05. It's 2nd class unreserved only, and quite a long journey, but very enjoyable. You don't have to reserve in advance - just buy a ticket and go. Buses are faster, but I would always opt for train travel over bus.

Thanks for the info.
Mickey S. Is the train tend to be crowded? I would be with my wife and a small child. |

There was hardly another person on the entire train when it left Jodhpur. It was only at the next station (on the outskirts of Jodhpur) that it began to fill up. There may be others on this forum who have better experience of this train. Like all major Indian stations, Jodhpur can be pretty chaotic. I'd advise getting a ticket the previous evening. |

I would check if it is still running - not so long ago I checked trains at a glance and it wasn't there. There also used to be a train leaving Jaisalmer around 7.15 a.m. for Jodhpur and that one doesn't seem to be going either.

Local trains don't appear in Trains at a Glance (which makes it very difficult to get reliable information about them).
But this train is still running. Full details in this thread. |
