Jodhpur Folk Festival

On October 13 the Marwar Festival is celebrated in Jodhapur.

Is it worth coming to ?

I am traveling in Rajasthan that time and I was wondering if I should make an effort to be there at that time.

Thanks

Hi, I don't know if the festival you are refering to is the same as Jodhpur Riff:

http://www.jodhpurfolkfestival.org/

The date does overlap. You should check the schedule in the website and see if you like the performers. I would go ... but that is just me.

Mod Note: Your link wasn't opening so I fixed it for you, silversurfer

On TV news it has been reporting that Mick Jagger is the Patron of the Festival this year. I think it would be very good.
Yes this is the Festival you were asking about, eranil. It is an annual event.

Jodhpur Folk Festival

Hi,

I was planning my trip to Jodhpur and suddenly realised that you might find the reason why I am going interesting. I am going to attend the www.jodhpurfolkfestival.org. It takes place from 10th to 14th October. UNESCO is the sponsor and Mick Jagger is the chief patron.

If you want to go, then you have the following options:

1) book tickets on the overnight train for either 9th or 10th. You will leave Delhi at 10:30 PM and reach Jodhpur at 9 AM. Please note that on the 10th air conditioned coach is not available, it is full.

2) book your return tickets for 13th or 14th, timings coming back are similar. You leave Jodhpur at 10 PM, ac sleeper is available.

Or you can plan to fly out on 10th and return by air or train.

I have found good hotels in Jodhpur in the Rs. 2000 per night range.

The festival passes are also available online for Rs. 2500 per person for 4 days or Rs. 750 per day.

Thought it might interest you. I think this is going to be a great event, a sort of once in a life time thing, till it happens again next year

See you there, maybe we can even have a mini - indiamike party in Jodhpur.

It sounds like quite an event, and for a very good cause! Have a great time and please tell us about it when you return to Delhi!

This event has been cancelled due to the stampede in Jodhpur.

Mod Note: I have merged a thread that was started prior to this one called 'Marwar Festival' relating to the same event into this Thread. I have also moved it into the Rajasthan Forum where the first thread was originally. It will be of more value here.

It is understandable that it would be cancelled - most of the events were taking place in the Fort area. A very sad tragedy and it would have been insensitive to have continued with the Festival. For those who did not know about the stampede you can read about it here:
Jodhpur stampede
