Hi,

I am going from Jaisalmer to Udaipur. We are going to take a car in the morning (early) and get to Jodhpur around noon. there is an Indian airlines flight around 1.30pm or so from Jodhpur to Udaipur. That is the fastest. You can also take the train from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur. I chose car because of personal preferance. It is faster to fly from Jodhpur to Udaipur. Buses and trains take really long.

Goodluck.

Thanks for your reply! I see a flight with Indian Airlines at 1:30pm from Jodpher to Udaipur. How long do you estimate by car from Jaisalmer to Jodpher?

You'll be able to get to Jodhpur by car by 13:30; the journey time will be around 6 hours.

Car + plane, got to be the most expensive way to go, it's almost certainly easier to change your Itinerary round a bit for better connections, the money saved could significantly improve the standard of hotels you use, or at least allow for a more useful flight elsewhere.

Please look at this thread, even if you are not in India.: Have you seen Jonathan Spollen?

He could be anywhere now: You might have met him, be able to help, or give information.

Hi Mantaray:

As Steven_ber said, you can also take a bus instead of a car in the morning from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur or the overnight train from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur (which leaves Jaisalmer at 11.20pm or so and gets to Jodhpur I think at 5 am or so?) to save money. You can spend the rest of the morning in Jodhpur and then take the flight to Udaipur.

There are frequent buses. If you're opting for train you can also book your tickets online at www.irctc.co.in. Yes, car plus flight is an expensive option, but as I said I chose it for personal reasons and am willing to pay a little extra.

I'd be happy to share my itenarary with you through private message.

Thanks.

Sometimes car can be quicker than plane, taking into account the time you must allow to get from hotel to airport to give you enough time to check in etc.
Private car is door to door.
Plane doesn't stop at Ranakpur to see the beautiful Jain Temple

depending on which time of the year you fly, most of the flights in northn india are delayed or canceled due to fog.
