Jaisalmer to Bikaner

There's no direct railline between Jaisalmer to Bikaner.
Most tourists would take the buses.
I'm thinking if the bus tickets are sold out, then I could take the midnight train to Phalodi & then the bus to Kolayat, so reaching Bikaner.

Phalodi is about 2 hours by train from Jaisalmer & 3 hours bus ride away from Bikaner.

Has anybody taken this route before, especially reaching Phalodi at night?
Is there a retiring room at Phalodi Station ?

There will soon be trains running between Bikaner and Jaisalmer, new trains were announced in the budget.

A new line is being built between Phalodi and Kolayat, connecting with a line to Bikaner.

I don't know exactly when, but this line will be opened as quick as possible, it's useful to the military.

Bikaner to jaisalmir by bus.

Hi,
Govt. buses are available but they are not good enough. B.K. Travels, whose address is Shop No.2, Old Bus Stand, Bikaner and phone # 01512209895 runs buses one in the morning (at 5.30AM)and fare is Rs.130/- reaches JSM at 11.30 AM.Two night service buses are available at 10.00 PM & 10.30 PM which also have sleeper as well as seating arrangements with fare Rs.150/- & Rs.130/- respectively.

It's good to hear that there are trains between Bikaner and Jaisalmer. We'll be in Bikaner this September and hopefully staying at Vijay's Guest House.

If we hire a car to take us to Jaisalmer, what places of interest are there in between? I know about Kolayat, but what else is there?

Anyway, how long would this drive take? Anyone do this before?

Or maybe we'll just take the new train.... If so, we'll probably just take some time out of Bikaner to go down to Kolayat. Is Kolayat near Karni Mata Mandir?

Thanks,
Proxy

Phalodi is a lovely little town, with a Jain temple and some beautiful old Havelis. It's about halfway between Jaisalmer and Bikaner, and a useful stop for fuel and food. It is also the junction for the new rail line to Bikaner - the line appeared to have been completed when I was there in january, but there is as yet no firm indication of a date when regular train services will start.

They were waiting for you to cut the ribbon to start the train service, you didn't forget to cut the ribbon, did you?
