I think you're stuck on this idea that one has to go over Jodhpur, and make a connection there. No (throw tantrum smiley here <-- and then a real smiley to back that up ), there is a daily direct train going Delhi-Jaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer (and vice versa, and a fairly convenient night train both ways, and with many another stop along the way that might be handy to other travelers), making the overall picture just that little much more easier.

In other words, taking this train, one doesn't have to connect anywhere along the line. Yes, one can leave from Delhi in the late afternoon or from Jaipur near midnight and be in Jaisalmer close to noon the next day. It's the same train, and it is a direct train.

This is the one train we're talking about (there are -- naturally -- more between various inbetween stops though, for those wanting to go to/from there.)
