Distance to Jaisalmer is about 750 Kms from Delhi which is quite a bit considering the state of Indian Highways. While it is doable in day ( It took me about 14-15 Hrs of driving), it would be best to break the journey up.
If you dont have the time or inclination to do that then take a train, or a plane for that matter.

Realmacoy - Hotels for that money would have to be Fort Rajwada, Gorbandh, Heritage Inn, Rang Mahal - all good but for spic and span and prompt service I would go for Rang Mahal. Heritage Inn next door, also good and nice staff. Their restaurant is excellent and not over-pricey. If you break your journey and make a holiday of your trip there and back I would drive. The roads are excellent. Also handy to have your car with you. If time is pressing then there is direct Delhi - Jaisalmer train but it is fast or already booked out on many dates.

Sorry Lovemax no idea about buses, had used train. There is now a direct train to Jaisalmer from Delhi. Another option is to take the overnight train to Jodhpur, spend the day visiting the sites in Jodhpur & then taikng the overnight train to Jaisalmer.

Hey Ajay Khamaghani,
I saw one of your post earlier , i think to go to Jaislmer by car will be a little less then 900km. I was looking at the Map and was thinking of suggesting you a route but then i thought it is too much of driving and it was bit complicated for me to find a shorter way. There is direct train from Delhi to Jaislmer which has comfortble air con coach. Jaislmer is not very big , all is at walking distance. the outskirts are interesting and can be visited in half day by jeep, then maybe a camel ride for sunset and a dinner on dunes, return to hotel if you are not intersted in sleeping in desert(local tour organizers can arrange this) For hotels your budget, in Jaislmer i can suggest you one and I have stayed here,it is a rajput family and they offer their old Haveli,i would suggest hotel Nachna Haveli, they have brought their services up and are doing a great job besides this please have a look at hotel listings in the site yo u will be informed with a lot of options. I wish you all the best happy travel |

Thanks Da,
I just tried seeing the tickets but all the trains are booked till sunday, and there a WL in sleeper class. so I want to be sure that I leave. So i have counted out trains options but jodhpur, let me check if I get that option. Have limited days free. The response was super quick. ~m~ |

You may call Rajasthan transport at Bikaner house to find out about buses. They run Volvo buses to Jaipur that I know.

We stayed in Jodhpur, then drove to Jaisalmer. Great road and quiet (that was mid-November).

Have only just noticed this thread, and maybe too late! For that price range you could try Rang Mahal, Heritage Inn, out on road to Sam (by 3rd Jan, the Christmas -New Year rush will be over and prices should be down I hope; also Nachana Haveli in Gandhi Chowk. Gorbandh, next to Heritage Inn, which is the most expensive of those 3 may also do a room for those prices. Fort Rajwada possible too. All these suggestions are excellent places, spotlessly clean.
Mmmm- just noticed now after posting the above that I had already answered this same question in another thread you posted, realmacoy, on 19th December. Let us know where you stayed after all - we would all be interested! |
