Jaisalmer airport?

I have been reading conflicting information about Jaisalmer airport - does anyone know if it's open to civilian/commercial flights? If so, which airlines?? Thanks in anticipation.

Kingfisher is supposedly running flights to Jaisalmer via Udaipur and Jodhpur. I will try and check tomorrow if they are actually running now.

The best thing is to look on their website and see if Jaisalmer is timetabled.
Every cloud has a silver lining!

I've looked several times, and it seems there are no flights to Jaisalmer at all.

If there are no flights, this means it's not open yet - sorry, I was too busy this morning to check with agent here and I don't have his phone no!

It's a possibility they may start later - when the season gets busy as edwardseco mentions.

I don't think flights are seasonal; only the frequency might change.

Indizen - they are definitely seasonal - the season being the 'tourist' season. Generally before, when flights have been running, they have started around September - October and stopped around early March, late Feb. They are very much dependent on volume of booking. Also the state of Border tension comes into play - all flights were cancelled in 2002 and after that it took a couple of years before civilian flights were re-opened.

Aishah, you may be right. I read in a couple of places that flights are operational for 6 months in winter, but the airline websites don't seem to concur!

Jaisalmer airport is open to civilians. Again, the frequency may not be much and may be seasonal. I flew out of Jaisalmer to Delhi by Air India in late September.

I called Kingfisher two days ago and the woman I spoke with said there were no flights to Jaisalmer running in December.

I have been 'snowed under' with work and unable to get to the office, sorry folks. Will try tomorrow morning.

Vineshks - does this mean Air India has reinstated their direct Delhi to Jaisalmer flight? Would be good if they have.

It's not exactly a new airport - it's still at the military airport area. No flights were running out of the airport this season, only the air force itself. I will try to find out how far work is progressing, and whether it is a new building, as well etc. The problem is that flights get advertised in airline lists, then they are cancelled. Nothing went in or out this season as far as I know.

Mod Note: I have merged your post, benwa100 into an already existing thread on the topic. Because this question gets asked quite a bit (flights running/ not running etc.) I have made the thread a sticky so it stays at the top of the forum.
