There are many trains, but it's rare to hear of someone using the train name to search for train times, I can only think of the 'Trains at a glance' timetable that lists the train names.

You want to travel on Thursday, what class?

I am just really confused about the train systems. I will have to go buy that book, Trains at a Glance. I am in Pushkar so I assume I have to go to Jaipur to catch a train. At least that's what someone else told me. I thought I could find out information online somewhere but what I understand is that you need to know the train names (which I don't) and the routes (which I don't).

I want to travel 3AC. I think the ride is only two or three hours.

Train 2466 departs Jaipur daily at 10:50 and gets to Sawai Madhoppur at 13:00

Availability for Thursday is as follows.

Air con chair class (CC) = 45
Bookable 2nd class seat (2S) = 234

CC = Rs 224
2S = Rs 67

(Availability for Wednesday and Friday is about the same)

I can only ask you to trust me on the following......Book 2S (2nd class seat), this train isn't busy between Jaipur and Sawai Madhoppur, I booked Chair Class, then sat in 2nd class for the journey as I loved being able to watch the countyside as I tavelled.

There may be somewhere in Pushkar you can book this train, other than that, Ajmer would be the closest place, but I think you can leave booking the train till you get to a suitable place to book, the train will not fill up.

If you get to Jaipur station before 10 you could just buy an ordinary 2nd class ticket then board the train.

Good luck.

Look in the 'hotel section' of indiamike, there are a few hotels recommendations for Ranthambhore.

Go to the following page.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_srcdest_names.html

Source Station Name - Jaipur

Destination Station Name - Sawai Madhopur

Class - All Class

Then click on Get It.

(Update, Indian Railways is now 'day of week' sensitive, so if the journey you plan to take will be on a Monday, make sure you enter a date that is also a monday to view all trains that run on a monday)

onto next page........to get availability.

Click on circle next to train number.

Please check Days Of Run as not all trains are daily.

Look at top left of screen.....

Enter Your Journey Date - 20 - Oct. (for example)

Enter Quota - General or Foreign Tourist Quota

Look at the top right of the screen for Classes, click on the circle next to the class you want (make sure it's on the same line as the train you want).

Then click on Get Availability

If you want to see a few different dates for the same train, do not select a date, the site will give you the availability for the selected train for the next 6 times it runs, and then the next 6 and so on.

This site can be slow.

Thank you very very much for your reply. I get frustrated easily here. This is my first time in India. I have been here a month and some things are getting easier.

Again I appreciate your help!
