Jaipur Elephant Festival
It looks like I can make it to Jaipur for the Elephant festival. It looks interestin, with parades of elephants and elephant polo, but I understand it ends with the celebration of 'Holi'. I believe this is usually celebrated with massive paint and powder throwing. Is anyone familiar with the Elephant Festival? Is it worth going to, or will my blond female companion and I be too terrorised by paint bombs to enjoy it? Anyone out there been to it? It is March 28, 2002, by the way. Thanks

Sadhu,
The elephant festival is one of the high points of the tourist season. There is a special enclosure for tourists from where you can watch all the festivities from a vantage point. Holi celebrations can get rowdy at times but if you want to steer clear of these, confine yourself to your hotel on the morning of the 29th. If you are anywhere near Jaipur around this time, do not miss the majestic procession of elephants as it winds through the streets of Jaipur. See you in Jaipur!
