Is the current temp level normal in western Rajasthan now ?
Hi
Its been quite a while I have been out of IM. My sincerest apologies for coming back only when I need info. In future I would try to be more regular. I have a question. I am supposed to be in Bikaner Jaisalmer Jodhpur from around 13th to 20th this month (march 2008). Checking out the mercury levels at weather underground it seems a little too hot. 32 to 35 celcius. 33 at around 5:30 in the afternoon. Is this normal ? I checked back on 2007 and it was at least 8-9 degrees cooler. Is this just a wave that should cool down in a weeks time, or will it be soaring even higher. If it remains between 32 - 35 levels or higher between 11 and 5:30 - will it be bearable ?? I am fine with 35 in Kolkata doing my daily activities - but I have no idea of 35 in Bikaner when I am actually going from place to place trying to enjoy the forts havelis temples desert etc etc. And I have full days activity planned for every day. I will not be having a ac car at my disposal. Will be doing the regular + off beat sights and places using local trasport mainly. Any ideas ?? Forecasts ?? It would be a loss travelling such a distance and spending all the money if I cannot enjoy to the fullest. Its my first time in western rajasthan. And I was really really looking forward to this trip. At mercy of the Rajasthan experts. Thanks in advance |

Delhi is touching 33 C these days, and out in the sun its too bad..
Not sure what will happen in Rajasthan in next couple of weeks, if it rains then it might cool down a bit, but othersiw expect it to be 38C or even higher.. |

Well I did check out Jaisalmer Weather Forecasts( via Yahoo I think) and by Friday we are meant to be dropping 10'c which is substantial and I'm not sure if it will be the case... hope so. Cloud is starting to come, so that could be a good sign. But the mornings up to around midday are not too bad, and evenings once the sun goes down are still pleasant and by early morning it is nice and cool. It is a dry heat, no humidity, which some people find better than humid, hot.

Great news
Let me check Yahoo right now.
If it drops by 10 degree I am definitely not changing my plans. |

http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/INXX0144.html Here's the link for you, but looking just now, it's only 8'c drop - yesterday was 98'c!

Totally confused now
It does look much better.
Since I will buy my train tickets on Tatkal quota and since I have not done any hotel bookings yet (I called up RTDC hotels directly and they seemed to have lot rooms) - I think I will take my call on friday. My plan was to reach Bikaner on 13th morning and from there to Jaisalmer and leave Jaisalmer on 18th or 19th probably. So if by Friday I still find the forecasts on the cooler side I will keep on track. If it climbs up towards 98 again it might become un comfortable. What would you suggest ? |

It's your decision ijustwanttotravel! I can tell you there are still quite a lot of travellers around, I haven't needed to use the air conditioning yet, and yesterday I just closed everything up once it started heating up and the inside stone walls are still cool. I think I'd keep to your plans, by the end of March it will be getting almost too hot but last year I didn't start the a/c until 15th March. As I said, the mornings and early evenings are manageable. April is not a time for here I think.

Thanks
And I agree to you.
I am sure that inside the forts and havelis it will be cool. So I am still there. What about the Desert which I want to enjoy at Khuri. That is one of the primary reasons of me going to Jaisalmer. Stay a night there at the local village along with desert ride to the dunes. Will it be too hot now for that experience ? |

Try Weather Underground
I use this site for weather anywhere in the world http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/...uery=Jaisalmer.
This gives a 7 day weather forecast and it is currently showing 96 degrees today down to 91 degrees in a week (though the day before the last day of the forecast is 95 so don't expect much change). I will be in Jaisalmer at the same time as you, ijustwantotravel,so I would prefer it a bit cooler too. Good luck |

The met department reported a few days back that "winter is over".... not ignoring the fact that the met department tends to get a lot of things wrong but in this case i dont think there's any respite coming...... get ready for the meltdown !

If you go late afternoon to the desert, iwantto..it should be fine - I wouldn't recommend days on end now. The night will be excellent and you could camel ride afternoon and morning. Not too uncomfortable yet. By 11 a.m. starting to warm up a bit. And yes, these old stone buildings do keep the cool, but look for something as far down, groundlevel with more building up top, as possible.
