Hi,I'm new in this forum I'm coming in India for my first time. The point is that with the help of an agency I organized a kind of "big" round trip of 20 days in Rajasthan and Varanasi
The only problem that remains unsolved is how to reach Jaisalmer as 2nd point of the trip: I'll arrive in Delhi by plane and then the first choice was to go to Jaisalmer by train...but now I know that the train takes 21 hours and I think is a little bit too long and also too heavy...I'll reach Jaisalmer in my worst condition Now: I see that there isn't a direct plane (just from Jodhpur) and also going to Jaisalmer by car is too "heavy" and long !! (the rest of the itinerary is all by car-taxi) What do you suggest please ?? I really want to see Jaisalmer, but I can't now re-make a new itinerary. I hope somebody can help me!! Best Wishes, R. |

Maybe 15-17 days in Rajasthan with a car & driver, then back to Delhi, then you have to get to Jaisalmer.
I can see who's in charge of the tour you're paying for. You should seriously re-think the whole thing. You can get flights to Jaisalmer from Udaipur and Jodhpur, or 6 hour train journey to Jaisalmer from either Jodhpur or Bikaner. But back to your question, I'm not really sure what you're asking, or how long you have for the Jaisalmer trip, or why you have to come all the way back to Delhi before going to Jaisalmer, where is the last place you visit before you head back to Delhi? |

I'm also a bit confused about how you've already organized the trip but now want to add Jaisalmer. You really can't just add it if you've already organized the rest of your trip without redoing the entire thing.
Maybe you could tell us the details of the plan you already have and we can then make some suggestions. Jaisalmer is an out-of-the way destination (look at a map). It needs to be part of your whole plan. |

Have you already paid for the itinerary you've booked? If not, of course you can change it- just contact the tour company and tell them what you want to do. Even if you have paid, you should still try negotiating with them. If it's an extra service you want and will pay for, I expect they'll jump at the chance to help you.
Really though I agree with camelgirl and steven, I'm not sure what's happening here. Is Jaisalmer the first stop on your 20 day tour? Why, if you're flying into Delhi? Or are you saying you want to add it to the end, after the tour? How many days are you in India for in total? If you have an extra couple of days you could get a car from Delhi to Jaisalmer with some stops on the way. I would have thought your tour company would be happy to provide this for you. So...yeah. More info needed! |

Without actually getting into whys and hows of your journey(it puzzles me too, like rest of the folks above) or not directly answering your question, allow me to say that you should really get used to the fact that you might have to endure some long train/road journeys if you are spending more than a week in India. Distances can be long, and not every place is well connected by air.

Hi all, I'm sorry for my confused question that I put in a hurry before going to bed
Now I put my entire itinerary (18 days) that I haven't already paid: Delhi - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur - Chittogarh - Pushkar - Ajmer - Jaipur - Fathepur Sikri - Agra - Jhansi - Orchha - Khajuraho - (by plane) Varanasi - (by train) Delhi What do you think about it ?? Many of you will sudden recognize that Bikaner is out of my trip and that's why I was thinking to take a train/plane to reach Jaisalmer, even if we've a car for the rest of the trip. |

How much time did you plan to spend in each place? Seems like too many places for 18 days. Even driving & flying you've got some very long days of driving.

Yes I know, so many places that I've listed but not a night stop in each place, some of this places are just a "little" stop during the daily trip: ranakpur, chittoghar, ajmer, fathepur sikri, jhansi!
I know...many kilometers and hours, but the "will" of India is too big ![]() |

Maybe someone else can make some sense out of this plan. It seems to me to be going in too many directions, up and down, back and forth with too much time to just get anywhere!
Of course you can do more than one thing in a day, the Agra, Taj & Fatapur Sikri are commonly done in one day. But there are several more wonderful places to see in Agra and you certainly would want to spend a night there. In fact, there are some fantastic sights in Delhi that should also be visited. You could spend a couple of days there easily. The Red Fort alone is worth a few hours but there is much more. The thing about India is that there is way too much to see in one visit and it's why so many people here go back over and over (like me). You couldn't see all of Italy in 18 days, you'd pick a region or two and give it some time. What would you get out of 1/2 day in Rome, 1/2 day in Florence, 1/4 day in Lake Como, 1/2 back down to Naples, one day in Venice, fly to Milan....you get the idea!! India is BIG and it's better to focus on maybe 6-8 places and enjoy them....but that's my opinion and as I always say, many people love to race around! ![]() |

In 18 days I would say you could comfortably do Rajasthan. Adding Varanasi and Orchha and Khajuraho...no. Too much. With 17 nights/18 days, I'd look at something like
Delhi (2 nights) Mandawa (1) Bikaner (1) Jaisalmer (2) Somewhere out in the desert camel camp thing(1) Jodhpur (1) Udaipur (2) Bundi (1) Pushkar (2) Jaipur (2) Agra (1) Delhi (1) and fly home. Or some combination of the above. Honestly, honestly, really, I think you will find your itinerary with Varanasi in there too rushed to be enjoyable. Eighteen days isn't enough. |

Thanks all,I know, I'll be back in India and sure, I can't think to know well a great city in an half-day, (I still work in a great city that I really don't know well !!
)but how to see and know well all this world in just one life ?? Just a joke to say that I'm coming to India for my first time, this would probably be a hard trip, but I think it will let me great memories for the next time I'll be back.I will stop more than one day in great cities like Delhi and Varanasi and some else, in other cases I've based my choices on what I've readed in a couple of guides and what I've listen by some friend of mine. I post the final itinerary organized with dates that me and my girlfriend are near to accept. Really can't think about it ?? Date Place 13-Apr-08 Arrive Delhi 14-Apr-08 Delhi - Pushkar 15-Apr-08 Pushkar - Chittoregarh - Udaipur 16-Apr-08 Udaipur 17-Apr-08 Udaipur - Ranakpur - Jodhpur 18-Apr-08 Jodhpur - Pokran - Jaisalmer 19-Apr-08 Jaisalmer 20-Apr-08 Jaisalmer - Bikaner 21-Apr-08 Bikaner - Jaipur 22-Apr-08 Jaipur 23-Apr-08 Jaipur - Fethpur Sikri - Agra 24-Apr-08 Agra 25-Apr-08 Agra - Jhansi - Orchha 26-Apr-08 Orchha - Khajuraho 27-Apr-08 Khajuraho - Varanasi (Plane) 28-Apr-08 Varanasi - Sarnath - Varanasi 29-Apr-08 Varanasi - Delhi (Train) 30-Apr-08 Delhi 1-May-08 Delhi 2-May-08 Delhi - Italy |

Don't miss the rat temple at Deshnok, which is very near to Bikaner. (There is little of interest to occupy you in Bikaner, anyway). If you were to go to Deshnok in the afternoon you could pick up the evening Bikaner-Jaipur train from there.

Thank you, I've readed about the Deshnok temple near Bikaner, but it really doesn't interest me and also my girlfriend especially
Some people told me that Bikaner isn't so beautiful and something I've readed that confirm it, but also somebody (like you) deny it...then we decided to allow Bikaner a half-day, taking a hasty look around. As somebody here told me "too many places in too short time"! ![]() |
