Jaipur: Madhuban Hotel. Good-sized, well appointed rooms in a converted mansion that is kept spotlessly clean and sits in a nice residential area. Also reasonably priced. You might google Madhuban.

I can thoroughly recommend Pearl Palace for clean good sized rooms at reasonable price and an amazing restaurant. Diggi Palace in their more expensive rooms is nice - Jagat Niwas is good value in udaipur and i would definitely stay there even without a lake view - you will see it daily from their restaurant. Haveli on the Lake also good.

Hi!
Is there any more current information on these hotels and havelis? For example, which of the above, or LMB Hotel / Hotel Sarang Palace / Umaid Bhawan would you recommend? Or maybe some other Haveli hotel for end of April?
Thanks!

Haveli on the Lake was great - small and personal though. Had dinner at Jagat Niwas, it looked beautiful... but you can go there any time even if yoou're not staying there.

I stayed at Jagat Niwas in Udaipur late last year. It's a fabulous place. Rooms without view are very cheap, about Rs1200; with view they're three times as much. (I had one of the former for a night, one of the latter for three.)

The restaurant is outstanding: fine breakfasts, gourmet dinners. And the view from the restaurant is as spectacular as from Lake Palace-facing rooms.

Beware of Udai Niwas, the hotel in Lonely Planet's good books

Jagat Niwas Hotel at Lal Ghat is good value, with good views and good food.
We also stayed at Udai Niwas for the first night, a nice clean, low budget option, but the man at the front desk was extremely rude and callous and tried to pull off that "I don't have the room you booked, but a higher priced room just got vacant" scam on us!

We had dinner at the restaurant connected to Amet Haveli - the restaurant is stunning (you must eat there - Ambrai) and the accom looked really nice from the outside. It's over the other side just near Haveli on the Lake - its nice being on the other side to the really tourist part, and Carol and Babu at HOTL are great hosts - check out the reviews.

I stayed at Hotel Mahendra Prakash a few weeks ago for four nights, and was very happy with it. We paid 1400 rupees for an A/C double room. They are not located on the lake, but within walking distance of the lake, City Palace complex, and the older (touristy) part of the city. I highly recommend it, if you don't mind a place off of the lake. We had lunch at Ambrai, which was a nice spot to sit off of the lake. We also really enjoyed a dinner at Udai Kothi, which has a beautiful rooftop restaurant with good views.

People, are you talking about Udaipur or Jodhpur??, cause I am getting confused here. I am going to Jodhpur, but not Udaipur. In Jodhpur I booked Haveli Guesthouse (orange or blue room) in accordance with the recommendations of people on this forum... Thanks for the feedback!
