Question I Need Hotel Recommendations for Jaipur & Udaipur

Hi, I am new to this sitebut am excited by the amount of information and friendliness of the posts!

I will be traveling to Udaipur and Jaipur in a few weeks with my mom (we're first going to my cousin's wedding in Mumbai). I am having trouble finding the right hotels for us in these two places. I would love to stay in a place that has great Indian charm (would you recommend a Haveli?) and is beautiful. I am looking for something with a mid-range price. Any recommendations (and places definitely NOT to stay) are greatly appreciated! Please help - I am quickly running out of time!

If some day I will be able to go back I definetly choose again Diggi Palace in Jaipur and Jagat Niwas in Udaipur.
You can also check the hotel section in the forum.

Ciao!

I am not to familiar with many places in Udaipur as the only place I stayed in was the Lake palace for one night and am not sure I would recommend it....

but in Jaipur tho' I really liked Diggi Palace , I did get bitten by bedbugs there.
My fav is Arya Niwas which is clean , efficient , great location for shopping etc.but it is not a haveli. It is also a great place to meet other travellers and share their adventures.
Another place but slightly expensive is the Samode haveli which is very beautiful and charming.

We stayed in budget accommodation in Udaipur, and although we found it excellent for our needs, I don't think it would be what you are looking for; however, we splurged in Jaipur and stayed at Umaid Bhawan. It would be worth having a look at their site to see if this is the kind of experience you are after.

?Alsiar Haveli? -- ?Jagat Niwas Standard Rooms?

I had contacted a hotel in Jaipur called Alsisar Haveli. They had confirmed a reservation but are asking for a Credit Card number. The price they gave me was much higher than the price listed on the website. Does this seem suspicious or standard? I read somewhere that I should forget hotels that ask for a CC in advance - is this true?

Jagat Niwas Palace Hotel in Udaipur only has Standard non-lake view rooms available. Are these still good? I don't think having a lake view is THAT important but I would like the room to be very nice - especially since I'm traveling with my mother and not just backpacking on my own. Thoughts? The price seems good: Rs. 1250 + 8% tax

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!!

In Udaipur I have always stayed at the :-Rang Niwas Palace Hotel, it was originally an old palace, Has a swimming pool and very pleasant staff. But I do not recommend their restaurant!
Now for accomadation in Jaipur I recommend the Karni Niwas, cheap and friendly people.

Udai Kothi in Udaipur is a great hotel, although when I stayed there it had just opened and their prices were substantially lower. But still, it is a beautiful place.

Jaipur Hotel

We are going to Jaipur and have reserved at Pearl Palace. It seems to be nice and very inexpensive Rs 540 for a double roon if reserved via internet, They do not ask for advance or creditcard number, Check their website http://hotelpearlpalace.com
BTW, We have not yet gone there and I can give you any personal opinion ofthe place.

Jasvilas in Jaipur is a great place, absolutly a place where you could take Mom. (check out the other 11 reviews of the place by scrolling down the above link)

I wouldn't recommend the place I used in Udaipur, I can't even remember the name of the place.

I stayed at the hotel pearl palace in Jaipur and I HIGHLY recommend it. The owner takes great pride in his hotel - he is a very kind sikh man and very artistic - he did the painting murals and design for the rooftop restaurant which truly is a work of art - completely original and all the chairs are very unique wrought iron with different shapes and designs. I was very impressed. The rooms are very clean and the entire hotel itself is kept clean - there was always someone scrubbing the marble floors with soapy water. The price is amazing given the quality. One simply cannot go wrong by staying there!

I would like to second this recommendation - i found the staff wonderful - the owner friendly and personable the rooms very nice sized, and the rooftop restuaruant was so relaxing- there is something soothing about the far far off sound of those honking autorickshaw horns...
and teh food was so good and inexpensive, i felt guilty about eating there so much and not trying other places to eat.

I found both places below very good clean mid-range accommodation with ensuite:
Udaipur:Kankarwa Haveli (heritage building on waterfront)
Jaipur: Umaid Bhawan (modern building in old style)
