Holi in Jodhpur

We will be staying ata Heritage Hotel called Rohet Garh, about 40km South of Jodhpur on 22 - 24 March this year. I believe that is roughly when Holi begins. I have heard that on one day everyone throws coloured water and dust around in the main towns and we would like to watch and perhaps join in. Does anyone know if this happens in Jodhpur and on which day? Also the agent we are using in India suggest that it may not be safe to take the car into Jodhpur on that day. Any advice?

Rohet, where we are staying is about halfway between Jodhpur and Pali. Will there be celebrations in the local town of Rohet?

From past experience would suggest you spend holi in Rohetgarh, the family who own the fort there I am sure will provide a rare insight into the traditions of holi without all the madness of drunken horny young indian guys to contend with as you will have to if you venture into a city such as Jodhpur, where even most Indian women will feel unsafe to venture out of doors on the day. In the cities these days (especially Rajasthan) holi tends to get out of control and can easily become agressive. You will enjoy the spring festival of colours much more in a small village atmosphere. Holi Hai!

According to my calendar Holi is going to be the same day as Good Friday, 21st March. Good advice, dilbharatmain - if you know where you will be on 21st, see if the people you are staying with will be doing Holi there.

If you are in a city watch the celebration from the terrace/balcony of your hotel. Unless you are a veteran do not try lassi/sherbet, pakora laced with Bhang.
