Help for 3-4 day quick trip in Rajasthan!

Hi All,

Just found this wonderful site and have already learned a lot! I would really like some tips/advice for a quick 4 day trip through Rajasthan. Mostly, is it do-able? Suggestions for inexpensive, boutique-type hotels and car rentals, and alternate iteneraries are most welcome! Thanks! Want to do Udaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Jaipur-Delhi.

Day 1: Fly into Udaipur around 2:30 pm from Bombay. Spend afternoon arranging for car, driving around Udaipur [what exactly is there to see there?]. Overnight Udaipur or be on my way to Kumbhalgarh?

Day 2: Visit Kumbhalgarh Fort, Visit Jain Temple. leave for Jodhpur. Overnight Jodhpur. See Fort in Jodhpur.

Day 3: Leave for Jaisalmer; overnight Jaisalmer; desert safari. overnight Jaisalmer.

Day 4: leave for Jaipur; overnight Jaipur spend next day seeing sights in Jaipur and catch late flight out of Jaipur for Delhi.

Note that I dont need to do any shopping in Jaipur, so I wont require much time there.

I think Udaipur is more of a walking and gawking city than drive around.

It's 8 hours by bus from Udaipur to Jodhpur, so I assume it's an hour or two less by car...still be a long day though unless you race around the temple and fort.

What about flying to Delhi from Jodhpur or Jaisalmer...might save you some time...you could leave Jaipur out then.

It is better to fly into Udaipur and out of Jodhpur, or the other way round. If you want to exclude Jaipur, take the plane from Udaipur to Jodhpur.

I think it is crazy to try and do all that in so little time!
The journeys there are exhausting. What is the point of flying to Udaipur just to spend a few hours there. I absolutely loved Udaipur.
You won't want to be "on your way to Kumbhalgarh" at night. I wouldn't travel on those roads at night!!!.
Seeing the temples, fort and driving to Jodhpur in a day in time to see the fort ... almost impossible.
There are some extraordinary Jain temples in the fort at Jaisalmer. Maybe just go to Jaisalmer on the overnight train. See the temples, the fort, do the camel safari and then train to either Jodhpur or Jaipur and then flight to Delhi.
Sorry to be rather negative but you don't want to be tooo exhausted to enjoy any of it!

Based on the assumption that you will begin the journey from Mumbai and end with Delhi, and that you have only 4 days, I would recommend the following to you -->

Day 1 - Udaipur.
SEE AND DO - City Palace and Boat Trip to Jagmandir - 2-2.5 hrs. Leave Post haste for Shilpgram (u have to reach by 1700-1800 hrs...confirm the time though). Its a must see . Trust me, its better than visiting the most other places that the city has to offer.
STAY - Panorama Guest House - Amazing place, 950/- for double occupancy ac. Fantastic Rooftop giving an almost 360 view of the city (prob the only place to offer so). Ask for Room No 15 (the best...trust me on this one) try booking in advance.
Day 2 - Leave early morn by 0600 for Kumbhalgarh. Hav breakfast enroute someplace. From there it will be another hour drive max to Ranakpur (amazing Jain temple). Drive on to Jodhpur. Make sure to reach there by 1500 hrs latest...fort museum closes at 1700 hrs. vll take u at least 2 hrs to see the fort. Make sure to use the audio tour guide avail at the entrance..DO NOT HIRE THE GUIDES. the audio tour guide is very good.
Stretchin u a bit here but then leave post dinner to Jaisalmer. vll save u a nights stay and make sure u see more than u can.
Day 3 - Morn arrival at Jaisalmer. Have breakfast someplace. Fort and Museum open by 0830-0900 hrs.see the fort (again the audio tour guide is available here). See the Salim Singh ki Haveli. (there are 2 other havelis but nothing to see there given the time constraint u have). hav lunch.
leave post lunch for Sam Dhani. check in at RTDC Sam Dhani. hav a bath and freshen up. take a camel ride (its jus amazing man!!! , sunset on the dunes). comeback and see the folk programmes arranged by them. (Contact Mr Khan...details on RTDC website). watch the night fall and twilight sky come alive. have dinner here.
Day 4 - Leave post breakfast for Jaipur. Depending on when u reach there...see as much as u can and leave for delhi late night flight.
