Getting from Jaipur to Udaipur
Getting from Jaipur to Udaipur
It seems that no direct flights between Jaipur and Udaipur exist. I also looked at train options, but it seems none are available except for overnight options. Is hiring a car with driver from Jaipur to Udaipur doable? How long does it take? How much would it cost to hire an air conditioned-car for four people? Thanks.
What's wrong with an overnight train?

You're looking at old info. The Udaipur-Ajmer express was extended to Jaipur last year, it now departs Udaipur daily at 06:15 and gets to Jaipur at 13:35.
The best flight options seems to be Kingfisher Red, Udaipur 14:25, Jaipur 18:30 (via Delhi), Rs3227, though the fare may be different for your travel date.
www.erail.in is great for train info
www.ixigo.com is good for flights.

Oops, I was looking in the wrong direction.I think train 12922 was the old Ajmer-Udaipur train that got extended to Jaipur.
Just a bit of advice if you do go for the 12992, I've been trying to book this for the last month or more (from Ajmer to Udaipur on 7th october) and its unavailable as yet.
Dave pointed out to me a couple of weeks back that the tickets for this particular train only have a 30 day advance booking, but they don't sell out too quickly.
Can't resist trying now and again though, not that I don't trust your advice Dave
They'd better come up as available come 7th Sept or I'll start panicking!

Thank you everyone for the helpful information.
Just so I know all my options, if I hired a car, is it doable to get from Jaipur to Udaipur in a day?

Yeah. You will have to pay the return fare also.Around 420 kms, 6-7 hours drive one way. If you leave Jaipur at around 6:00 am you could reach Udaipur by 6:00 pm seeing Chittorgarh fort on the way. You can easily spend 3-4 hours in the fort.
An Innova would be the best vehicle for 4 people. It is also costlier in comparison to a Sumo or Tavera. It should cost you around Rs 12000 - 13000.

Well, I have already given you my advice about where to book your car and driver, and how much it would cost. Toyota Innova, $70 per day. (and yes, it's air conditioned).
Why don't you bundle up all of your travel requirements and book it that way, wiith one company?
Yes, you could cover that distance in one day.
On the other hand, you could take a car from Jaipur to Pushkar (one morning), overnight in Pushkar and then drive to Udaipur the next morning (around 5 hours).
There are 500 temples in Pushkar, including a Brahma temple, and there are not many of them anywhere. You could certainly stay longer if you wished.
I am now going

Much more life to be seen on the road.
And, FWIW, if I can fly, I fly.
