From Bundi to Varanasi???
Rajastan to Varanasi- BEST way???
This is our 4th trip to India but the first in Rajastan. We have the opportunity to land in Ahmedabad- take a bus or train to Udaipur- go to Mt Abu with bus- Jaisalmer with bus- Jodhpur - Pushkar - Bundi. We will of course stay for a while on each place. But NOW is the problem: How to get from Bundi to Varanasi??? Do we have to go to Jaipur, Agra and then from there to Varanasi or is there another way more interesting?? I found trains from Bundi to Varanasi but they are between 16 to 23 hours. Is there maybe anywhere interesting to make a stop and to "cut the road in half" instead?? This "circle" seemed a good way to go around instead of start in Delhi (which we can also do), but will there be some "must see" places that we miss if we choose to do it like this? Please help! Have a look at http://erail.in?T=KOTA::MGS: .
Kota's about an hour if even that from Bundi, and serves as its railhead. Mughalsarai is about an hour from Varanasi, and is the largest railway junction in India I think. Those trains take about 16.5-23 hours yes, it's just a bit of a distance. (And the best don't arrive at the greatest of times I see now, as in well in the middle of the night. Hm.) You might want to check out Kota itself, I wasn't too impressed with it, but well, it has some sights. Real stop-offs on the way I don't know about no. Have you been to Delhi before? It's really a very interesting city (once you get through the surface anyway), and it could make sense to go over there I suppose. Would easily merit any number of days to actually experience and enjoy it. There are good overnight trains from there to Varanasi. Or then over Jaipur & Agra could make for a logical route yes I guess; the first I found terribly hectic, and for similar reasons the latter doesn't greatly attract me (never been yet), but, well, obviously many tourists would beg to differ.

Bandhavgarh National park is an option.
Use erail.in and search fot Kota to Katni, then Katni to Varanasi. |
