Feb/March cultural events Right now we are supposed to be heading towards Pushkar, but because my poor man got sick, we are still in NZ and planning a new trip in Feb/March 2010. Travel insurance can be so helpful! ... and fate can be good - needing surgery in a desert would not have been a good look. We had planned to head from Delhi to Pushkar then meander up to Shekhawati for a few days and work our way anti clockwise around to Bundi via Jaisalmer stopping off at various towns over 3-4 weeks. Some suggestions planning our new (4-5 week) itinerary would be really helpful - as musicians we are keen to hear and watch music and dance as we travel - especially village or festival events. If there are any events on, then we can arrange our travel around this. J is also a photographer, so we plan to include a couple of longer stays (ie week) in our travel time - that way we can just enjoy the rhythms of day to day life. We had planned to have a driver for some of our journey, to enable us to be flexible in where we go. How hot is it likely to be around mid Feb - March? Is this a dumb time to go over to Jaisalmer? Look forward to your thoughts!

Thanks for the tip Mridula. Unfortunately it will be on at the end of January - at least a fortnight before we are able to arrive. With the inclusion of 'turban tying' I also suspect it is staged for tourists? Given the region's musical and dance talents, there must be places where people routinely practice their craft? It would be great to hear about these. We could even trade songs!

I have not been there just heard of it. But I think it has become very touristy and attracts a large crowd. I hope some other member comes along who has better ideas than me!

Someone with more knowledge of Rajasthan can definately tell about villages where these folk singers live. But shooting & listening to them in front of large audiance is fun.
