Dinner at Lake Palace - Udaipur

I would like to book a dinner at Lake Palace in Udaipur. Is it worth the costs (how much roughly)? Should I reserve in advance and how?

Thanks for the answer

Really????
In the last LP it said you could go there for dinner via boat - guess I better wait until the next LP comes out next month...

It has been so in the past yes. I really have no idea what the current situation is.

I assume they'd be online so contact them about it.

I have been there only for lunch many years ago. Would be surprised if they didn't at least take reservations for their resteraunts, dunno if they would get enough business only from residents.

Can understand them wanting to discourage gawkers/folks who land up just for coffee though. But reservations for a meal at a resteraunt should be possible, I think.

Anyway, this here http://www.tajhotels.com/palace/Taj&...pur/dining.asp doesn't mention anything, as far as I can see.

I emailed and they said they do take reservations for dinner for non-guests after meeting the requirements of their guests.

I have eaten there and it was a astounding. Don't ask the cost. Its worth it. They even had a decent wine. Don't miss the free entertainment or the clean restrooms. I wasn't a guest given my budget (next trip). Do remember to make a reservation for the boat. If you are lucky they may have a special food presentation on the outer area (views). The boat ride is a hoot as well. They treated my boy to numerous trips. Enjoy..

I sent an email at themail (that I could not seen in the site even if it was clearly there ). This is the reply. According to you ,what does the abstract that I marked in bold means?

"With reference to your query, please find below the dining options:

Ø Jharokha- all day dining ( international cuisine)- Rs.3000 per person plus taxes

Ø Neel Kamal- Indian fine dining ( regional wood fire cuisine)- Rs.3000 per person plus taxes

Ø Unique Dining venue:: Pontoon ( dining on a floatila in the middle of the lake): $200 per person plus taxes: ( choice of a four course western/ regional cuisine)

Dinner Timings: 19:30 hrs onwards

Dress code: semi-formals
The above mentioned price does not include beverages and would be charged on consumption basis. Please let us know the choice of your restaurant so as to confirm your reservation."

don't do it - it's overpriced, over-oily, over-cooked food. but if you do it'd be interesting to hear what you made of it.

far better to eat at the restaurant attached to rang niwas palace hotel in central udaipur - good, simple food at very reasonable prices. you can choose to sit indoors (on the first floor) or on the open-air terrace with views. the former during the day and the latter for the nights - i ate there all the time. stayed at the hotel as well - a real find.

To me that would mean that drinks are not included in the prices. You will pay extra for the drinks, and the prices will be per drink or per bottle. That is - it is not a fixed price like the meal is - the more you drink, the more it will cost.

To be honest, I would like to go there not really for the cooking but for the athmosphere, to see the palace and maybe enjoing the boat. I do not know if the food is horrible I could change my mind (also because it is quite pricey!).
I will ask if the boat is included.
