I think I did see Mahendra Prakash at Udaipur and yes its nice but if u would prefer the lake view I'd suggest Jaiwana Haveli. The owners Yashvardhan n Harshvardhan did a splendid job when they booked a cab for me and also guided me a lot abt the city (I traveled alone on my b'day). The view of the lake from the rooftop was amazing and teh cab driver was too good to bargain a good deal for me at Lake pichola for boating.

Arya Palace at Jaipur is good, rooms are nice, clean and the food is homely but the surrounding isnt that great given to the fact its near to the crowded market. I'd suggest Umaid Bhawan heritage hotel. Its is a quiet location n great rooms (can never forget the large warm suites)

Ahaa Jodhpur - My favourite city. If you can splurge please do so at the Ajit Bhawan ..the swimming pool was so nice n rooms small but cute n cozy. Did'nt stay there but visited. We stayed at (02 gals) at Fortune Umaid.

During the same trip at Mount abu we quiet liked the Connaught house . they were so nice that my friend took ill and we had out train late evening they did not even charge us extra even when the room was occupied till 6 pm. Food again here is homely and they even have a small library where yo can find those hard bound old books.

For shopping Artificial n real jewellery (precious stones)from Johri bazar Jaipur. The lehariya sarees and miniature paintings from Udaipur (beware of the fake ones)and Mojris from Jodhpur near clock tower.

For food lunch at Hotel Garden in Udaipur, Choki dhani for a nice Rajasthani evening at Jaipur and On the Rocks for the Continental cuisine at Jodhpur.

Cant say anything about Jaisalmer. I yet have to explore it

From Jodhpur go to Jaisalmeer and then go to Jaipur. You can also go to Bikaneer in between Jaisalmeer and Jaipur. Keep it minimum at Jaipur since its more or a state capital...

Take a look at the map of Rajasthan. You can shorten your on the train/road time by optimizing.

You can easily shave off a day or two in Udaipur. I would suggest something like,

Mt Abu,->Udaipur--bus/cab-->Jodhpur--Train->Jaisalmer--train-->Bikaner

From Bikaner to Jaipur by train.

We followed this route... the best one....

I can say of some 'must see' : Dilwara Temple, Chittor Garh (Light and sound there is must, must), Amber Fort, Mehrangarh Fort, Khuri/Sam dune, Tanot, Puskar Lake, Jashwant Thar (listen the folk song there)... I liked Mandu, Devi Kund, Gaddisar lake, Papet show in Jaisalmer and Rajasthani Chana curry too.

aamar payer tolai sorshe...(I have wheels under my feet)

Hi nycank,
Bikaner is nowhere in my itinerary. As all my train travels are an overnight journey I dont see how I would save on my train road time.

While in Jaisalmer, why not spend a night in the middle of the dunes under the stars? Its an experience you won't forget soon.

I plan to do that khargosh. But since I am with a family & kid I would prefer a half day camel safari rather than an overnight safari in the desert.

Makes sense then since it can get unbearably cold and windy in the night!

Jaydeepy,

I am also planning for Nov. Immediatley after Diwali if you visit Mt Abu it will be toom much crowded. Insted check following

Book Pune - Jaipur - Pune Air ( present cost is around 8500/- spice jet)
Then do the following

Pune (A) Jaipur - (Train) Bikaner – (T) Jaislmer – sam sand dunes stay (T) Jodhpur (Road)– on way see Ranakpur & Hadighat – Mt Abu – (R) on way see kumbhagarh - (R) Udaipur – Chittaurghar - (R) Bundi – (R) Ranthambore- (R) Ajmer – Pushkar- (R) Jaipur – (A) Pune

The only issue is that road journy from one city to another would be costly by privte car since it has to return to its destination. The night trains are always good.

let me know your views.
its me mak!!!

Hi friends,
What would be the fare for 6 people to travel in a car from abu road to mount abu? Are cabs like innova or tavera easily available at abu road? Also what would be the fare of innova to travel from mount abu to udaipur traveling to Eklingji & Haldighati on the way? Is it possible to do any other places than haldighati & eklingji on the way from mount abu to udaipur. Please suggest the best possible route for sightseeing from mount abu to udaipur covering as many places as possible.
