They probably will. If they don't, you may find the railway staff (station master!) happy if not make it a point of pride to look after it for you (they may be more inclined to do so for a foreign visitor than for an Indian visitor, I suppose. I'd still just ask them though, and coming from far-away, as an Indian you'll be just as exotic I'm quite sure -- and able to speak to them with perhaps some effort no less! Count your blessings!)
If all that fails, I'd look for some restaurant or hotel that looks OK to me, maybe and preferably have a drink or snack there, and ask them to mind it. Keep your valuables on you at all times no matter what you do, of course. (I'm reminded again now of me goofing around some with my pack and not knowing how to sit down with it in a bar during a layover in Mangalore, the place was pretty packed and of course the staff went like, no no sir, just leave it behind the counter. Of course, those are never any situations to worry about, it was safer there than it could have ever been in my hands. And me being made to feel very welcome while I was at it, again, as usual.)
