We are planning to travel to Mount Abu and Udaipur by road from Gurgaon. First we would like to go directly from Gurgaon to Mount Abu, stay there for one day/one night and the come to Udaipur and stay two nights.
When I am trying to get route map, we have two options to go to Mount Abu. One from Ajmer – Pali – Mount Abu ( NH 14). Second : Ajmer – Udaipur(NH 8) - Mount Abu. Could you please let me know the best route in terms of road condition and fastest time to reach the destination.

Could you also please suggest good hotels in Mount Abu and Udaipur

The route is:

Gurgaon-Jaipur-Ajmer-Pali-Sirohi-Mount Abu. Or you may skip Jaipur and take a cut on the tollway to Ajmer.

From Mount Abu to Udaipur route will be:

Mount Abu-Bhavri-Sirohi Road-Pindwara-Udaipur

Then Udaipur to Guragaon:

Udaipur-Chittorgarh-Kishangarh-Jaipur Byepass-Neemrana-Gurgaon

At Udaipur, Mewar Haveli is a very nice place to stay.

At Mount Abu you may stay at Hotel Blue Valley.

Lovely roads most of the way. In the Udaipur-Pindwara section, the first 10 kms out of Udaipur were incomplete and in a bad shape in April 09, but the roads may be complete now.

Udaipur to Mt Abu (175 kms) can be done in 3-4 hours.

Thanks Kumar,

Actually I am more worried about Udaipur to Mt. Abu. I have read it somewhere that they are widening the roads.... so just wanted to enquire whether the work is over or not...

Yes, the road widening (NH76) is complete but for the first 10 kms. It is a fantastic 4-lane road now and what used to take 3 hours earlier takes barely 1. Once you join NH14 at Pindwara, it is again another stretch of 4-lane road.

When you come from the Chittorgarh side, the Udaipur bypass is incomplete, so you will fist join the NH8, turn right towards Nathdwara/Ajmer and after 10 kms, turn left to continue on NH76 towards Pindwara.

Whole of Mount Abu can be covered in a day.
Must see is Dilwara in Mount Abu, ofcourse. It opens at 12 in afternoon.
In morning, you can visit Guru-Shikhar. It's supposed to be highest peak in Aravalis. and being Mount Abu there are lot more temples around. Some people do visit brahmakumari's ashram as well.
Evening can be spent at Naini Lake.

As far as Udaipur is concerned, City Palace is a must visit.

I personally liked Kumbhalgarh & Ranakpura a lot. They are near to Udaipur and need 1 day.

Both places can be easily done in a day - or are you saying that you want to cover both in 1 day?

Udaipur - City Palace a must, Fateh Sagar Lake at sunset, 2 hours
Mt Abu - Nothing but the Dilwara temples and their amazing carvings, 2 hours

Dilwara temples in Mount Abu, rest all is sham. Its a hill station, supposed to be a holiday spot not a site seeing spot.

its better if you spend both days in Udaipur instead.

No safety issues. Except that it is pretty lonely between Kishangarh and Udaipur.

Zero safety issues as hvk baba has already replied

My only issue is that trucks are a goddamned pest. Do what you will - make sure you cross jaipur on the return before 4pm
SMASH!!!!
