Bike rental in Rajastan?

Howdy.

I will be in Jodhpur for a couple weeks in November and hope to use a bicycle as my main mode of transportation around there. Are there places I could rent a bike for weeks at a time? Or is it better to just buy one while there? A simple three speed will do.
Also do most hotels/guesthouses have a place to lock up a bike outside, or would I need to take up to my room each night?

Thanks,

Jim

Bicycles are easily rented in most places. You'll normally be looking at a daily cost but for three weeks and in a bargaining country I'm sure you could work out a handsome discount, they might have weekly deals too.

Speeds I'm not so sure about, the average Indian bike is just yr normal no-frills no-gear pushbike, although I bet that market has been modernized.

Locking it up I don't know, I guess you'll sometimes get lucky and if not you'll have to carry it up four flights of stairs. With so many bicyclists they must all park them somewhere though.

I've rented bikes a few times and they've only had clunkers available- very little suspension and padding, shall we say. They're very cheap though and I wasn't riding far so it wasn't a problem for me.

If you're looking for something comfortable or want to cover larger distances it's probably worth buying your own but I have no experience with this side of things.

Well, I guess I don't mind a single gear bike since it doesn't look like there's many hills around there. But it sounds like buying one would be my best option.
Thanks.

Except buying and selling it might take you about one of your couple of weeks. Your call
