Alcohol in Rajasthan

I'm travelling to Rajasthan for a week later this month.

Will be in Agra, Jaipur and looking into going to another couple of places.

While I'm not going for a party time I do like to have a few beers in the evening. I'm a bit concerned that Rajasthan is being called a dry state.

Is alcohol available to buy and easy enough to get in restaurants and bars?

You'll find it in restaurants and bars easily enough.

There are plenty of "English Wine Shops" around Rajasthan, where you can easily obtain varying qualities and quantities of alcohol.

Gujarat is the dry state (in recognition /deference to Ghandi).

Cheers

Lots of it available , and freely, in both Agra and Jaipur.

Alcohol in Rajasthan is amongst the cheapest in country, along with Delhi and Goa.

beer everywhere

We had no trouble at all and travelled form one end of the state to the other. Even in Pushkar where signs are posted we still found a beer.

With respect to cultures, Is it ok for women travelling alone to have a beer at the end of the day?

There is nothing like a cold beer at the end of a days travels! I have been wondering if it would be ok to do so

Yes that's the good news - the bad news is that you'll have to drink it in a room by yourself & dispensed from a teapot.

Just kidding.

Do make sure that you stress 'cold' when ordering 'cold beer' .... otherwise you might get something slightly less than tepid.

As long as its cold I will happily sip it from a tea cup hidden away in my hotel room

Tell the store fellow that it is for your husband and also tell him that your husband will beat you up, if the beer is not cold.

You could, as well, drink it from a plastic glass. Make sure you carry the swiss army knife or a bottle opener.

If you are planing to have a drink in Jaipur, as a single white woman, have it in one of the better restaurants like Niros on MI road or at Geofreys at the Park or some others.

Pushkar is a dry town, but there are lots of other things available-)

Jaisalmer is full of small quaint cafes where you can languidly sip a beer and contemplate..also the famous bhang lassi shop!

If you happen to go to Jaisalmer, just outside the fort opposite the lane that goes to the main market, there is a govt authorised shop that sells bhang mixed with grass and coke. You can have it either ways. Jus make sure you hav it in a small amount.

Cheers!!
