Advice required for Mt Abu visit.
Advice required for Mt Abu visit.
Hello All,
I'm looking for a wee bit of advice regarding a visit to Mt Abu in March. I'll travel there from Kumta (Karnataka) by train. I plan on staying in Mt Abu for around 4 days.
Firstly, I'm looking for a guesthouse. As I'm travelling solo I'd love to stay in sociable lodgings. Somewhere with a garden or rooftop cafe would be amazing. My budget is around 300-400 Rupees per night.
I'm also hoping to do a little trek from Mt Abu. I've seen that some trekking companies offer 2 day 1 night excursions in the region. Has anyone any experience of trekking companies? Any recommendations or companies that should be avoided? Lastly, does anyone have any advice regarding footwear? Will the terrain require walking boots?
I'll travel onward from Mt Abu to Udaipur. I hope I'm correct in assuming I'll be able to easily book myself on a bus for this journey.
Thanks in advance to any helpers! Any advice will be much appreciated.

Seth Raghunathdas parihar trust Inn guest house (near RTDC hotel shikhar and the petrol pump) is excellent. No TV but very clean double rooms were Rs 300/- a night. Excellent kitchen as well.

The terrain is loose soil, gravel and some boulders. Good walking sandals or shoes should suffice.

Yes. State road transport has buses and there should be private operators too (though we drove our own car). Glad to hear walking boots will be unnecessary, goodbye to the extra weight and blisters!
Thanks so much to you both for your help.
Very much appreciated.

@Fiona, SRP Inn recommended by Vaibhav is a 10 minutes walk from the main market area and bus depot of Mt Abu. I had stayed at Shikar behind SRP Inn.
Most of the places in Mt Abu involve climbing (steps available). Guru Shikar, Arbuda Devi Temple, Achalgarh Jain Temple, Gaumukh etc. I have been to most of the sights in Mt Abu except Gaumukh. You can go through my trip report if you want some information of the sights in Mt Abu.

Happy travelling
Mt Abu is a beautiful place to be.
For moving around there, one day, you can take a guided tour around the place in a government run tour bus, which costed Rs 80 an year ago, it departs from the bus stand by 9 am. This will take you the the famous places arpund, including Guru Shikhar, the peak. The downside of the Tour is that the guide may not be speaking english all the time, but you may request him, and he would be happy to oblige. The remianing days, you can stroll around the lake, enjoy boating, hiking, go to the Gaumukh. I would advice you to not think much about booking a vehicle to Udaipur. Buses are available, and they are luxurious in Rajasthan.

Has anyone been to the Summer Festival in Moutn Abu? If I understand correctly, this year it is from May 4 - 6. I'd love to get some feedback from anyone who has been to it. And regarding transportation...I have found several trains from Jaipur to Abu Road, from here I'm guessing I take either a taxi or a bus...is this correct? Any other advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Not been to the summer festival so can not comment on it.
Both buses and taxi are available for Mount Abu from Abu Road station. The bus station is around 20 minutes walking distance from the station.

It is Seth Raghunathdas Parihar Dharamshala aka "SRP INN" Mount Abu. We stayed there last year during the ULTRA PEAK season from 28th - 30th December 08.
Tariff : hold your breath...Rs 350 per day...
We were a bit skeptical about what we were going to get in 350 bucks. Our skeptimism was put to good rest once we checked in. The name dharamshala is certainly a misnomer. Its a full fledge hotel run by a trust with decent sized super clean rooms with attached bathrooms and a balcony. They are finicky about cleanliness ....even their linen is sent EVERYDAY to Jodhpur for washing. Nice clean blankets and above all 24 hrs Hot water supply. A rarity in Abu.
The food there was some of the best we had. Try thier Methi Parathas with curd...mouth watering stuff...
Only hitch...No Smoking and No liqour....and they are VERY strict about it..
So if you can live without smoking and liqour then this is the most bang for buck place to stay in Mt. Abu. Their website is www.srpinn.com
