Hi,
After doing lot of reading I have narrowed to visit Jaipur, Jodhpur & Jaisalmer in 7-8 days time with family.

I would like friends here to share their experience who has traveled to above places & (with offbeat experience if any) & suggestions on hotels / tour operators to choose.

Thanks..

Yes, below is the itineary planned.

Day 1, 2 - Jodhpur
Day 3,4,5 - Jaisalmer
Day 6,7 - Jaipur

Will spending 3 days in Jaisalmer will be too much or shall I cut down to 2 days?

I was in Jaipur only two weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I stopped at the Pearl Palace, through recommendations on this site, and I was not disappointed. 800Rs for a beautiful air conditioned, ensuite room. Pleasant staff, a good rooftop restaurant (Peacock?) and cheap laundry service. The only bad thing was the internet connection was poor. I've been writing a review on my trip if you're interested. thanks Cumbrians.
I have initially planned for Udaipur but traveling from there to Jodhpur or Jaisalmer looks tiresome as it will take lot of time.
I am with family hence want to avoid too much travel & relax.

I have 8 days, any thoughts on best itinerary from Mumbai?

So you will be landing in Jodhpur by flight?

In that case your initial plan looks good. Book the train tickets in advance.

Another Option I have is below:

day 1: Mum-Udaipur - reach by flight afternoon
day 2: udaipur, night train to jaipur
day 3: morning jaipur
day 4: jaipur, night train to jaisalmer
day 5: morning jaisalmer
day 6: jaisalmer, night train to jodhpur
day 7: morning jodhpur
day 8: jodhpur, eve flight to mum

does above schedule sounds workable? will it be too hectic or traveling? jaisalmer / jodhpur / udaipur - 2 days are enough?

The first option is comfortable. The 2nd one will be too hectic.

Hi,
Finally I have concluded on below itinerary.

Day 1 - Reach Udaipur noon
Day 2 - Udaipur
day 3 - Udaipur to Jodhpur via Ranakpur & Kumbalgarh
Day 4 - Jodhpur
Day 5- Jodhpur, overnight train to Jaisalmer
Day 6 - Jaisalmer
Day 7 - Jaisalmer
Day 8 - Jaisalmer to Jodhpur for flight back

Now I need to book for decent hotels & car during the trip.
Any recommendation on hotels & car services from members who have actually travelled?

In Udaipur I would recommend Mewar Haveli in Udaipur. They also have a transport help desk and a good restaurant.

Durg Niwas gets good reviews in Jodhpur and Desert Boys in Jaisalmer.
