urgent help about chandigarh
Hello everyone,
its me and my girlfriend planning to leave for chandigarh tomorrow evening [14th july] and we are a bit nervous about the city there. I checked each and every threads on chandigarh and hotels in chandigarh. I thought that we should book a ticket online for the hotels but then i got a bit confused about the hotels. we do not have a big budget. around 1500 to 2000 rupees per night hotel for both of us would fit in our budget. if it is cheaper than that then its even better. we just want to spend tomorrow's night there and then then come back to delhi on sunday evening. we have planned to see rock garden and rose garden there on sunday. we leave on friday evening and reach there at 20:22.
so do you have any suggestions which hotel we should go to? i mean we want to be safe there and we want to enjoy the place at the same time. there were so many touts when we went to see the Taj in Agra.
just for the info, I am an Indian and my gf is an American. well you can say that I don't much about the city even though I am an Indian...but I haven't travelled in India much so i have no clue about this place....any quick help will be really appreciated.
I will be on this forum the whole day so please don't hesitate to write something here
thank you!

yaar kumar, you need not worry about anything..staying in Delhi and worrying about Chandigarh !!
there wont be any touts as its not a tourist place..and you need not book the hotel in advance as I said its not a tourist place and rooms would be easily available..

I guess even a Cycle rickshaw will do unless you have loads of luggage...I don't remember the sector, but there are few hotels there adjacent to each other...
Here is a link of Piccadily Hotel, its quite famous in Chandigarh..the tariff mention on the web would be higher than what you will actually get

Hi there
I assume you are coming by train? If so the staion is about 7km from the main part of Chandigarh so you will need a taxi really or an auto. Taxi is about 170 rs. You can call 0172 4141414 mega cabs here and they will pick you up and take you in a metered taxi. Station taxis are around 170 rs. Shatabdi express gets to Chandi around 8.20pm.
There are hardly any touts here to speak of- it is nothing like Agra so dont worry about that. I have stayed in Hotel Orange S35 - around 1500 for a double I think. Ask for a discount - you should get 15 - 20 %. Park Grand in S 43 is good but around 2300 for a double. Havent found anywhere else I like but there are lots in S22 and S 35. It is fairly pricey here though.
Dont miss out on the museum - it is one of the best in the country.

There are both I-tickets and e-tickets...
e-tickets work the same way as you said..you simply book the ticket, take the printout with adequate identity proof (the you specified while booking)..
In I-tickets the actual tickets would delivered by courier to your specified address...
I guess e-tickets might be on expensive side..not sure though...

Some great Pahari miniatures in that Museum .... also Gurcharan Singh's pottery/collection. Bit eerie though .... been there 3 times and never seen so much as another patron, employee or anybody
..... only heard the occasional door slam and muffled voices from afar.
...... maybe all us Goras get private viewings.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. ~
