Jallianwala Bagh Memorial
Jallianwala Bagh Memorial
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre chapter from the history books of school was always etched deeply in the mind. Seeing the memorial in person was even more gripping.
On Sunday April 13, 1919, Brigadier-General Reginald E.H. Dyer, commanded 50 soldiers of the British Indian Army to massacre thousands of people assembled for a peaceful protest. More than a thousand people were killed, mostly women and children.
The memorial has 2 very compelling sections- bullet marks on walls and the martyr's well where hundreds died due to suffocation.
The visit leaves a heavy feeling about the colonial past and freedom struggle of India.

thanks for rekindling the memories. i remember seeing this place about 28 years back, few months before operation blue star. at that time, the well was not even covered... but it could still make your heart go heavy...
