Dharamsala to Amritsar
Dharamsala to Amritsar
Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me if there's a direct bus from Dharamsala to Amritsar? how long does it take? what time does it live?
Another question is regarding the train station in Amritsar: In irctc I find two train stations in Amritsar - JN (ASR) and CBA (ASRA), even though I thought there's only one ?! can anybody explain this?
Thanks a lot :-)

Most big cities have more than 1 train station or have stations on the outskirts of town.Amritsar Jn is the station you want.

There are bus services from Dharamshala to amritsar. Check out HPTDC website for info on departures and travel times. The closest train station from dharamshala would be Pathankot, about 80 odd kms away. It is well connected with loads of trains headed out to whereever you need to be.
Amritsar has only one station. Asr.
CBA for any station means City booking Agency.

Though I do not have time the table, there are direct buses between Dharamshala and Amritsar. The route via Pathankot is longer than the route via Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar.
Alternately, one can change bus at either Hoshiarpur or Jalandhar, there will be numerous options from there.
Dharamshala to Jalandhar take little short of 6 hours, so Amritsar shall take around 8 hours.
One advise though, avoid travelling on Sunday evening from Dharamshala, unless it is direct bus and you have a seat. Else it gets madly crowded enroute.
Hope this helps

If possible visit at the day break as well as night.
At day break the holy book 'Guru Granth Sahab' is carried to the Golden Temple from Har Mandir Sahab. and at night the same is returned to Har Mandir Sahab from the Golden Temple. It's very spiritually charging procession and all are encouraged to carry the 'Palki'.
The exact timings can be confirmed from the Golden Temple Office.

And would the journey manali- amritsar be possible in 1 day. The train amritsar-mumbai leaves at 9.30pm, so traveling from manali and visit to the temple- is it possible in 1 day?
