Taxi or train - Delhi to Ludhiana
I rang a driver which we have used in the past from Delhi….. He is charging us 8 rupees per kilo meter, patrol is his………. it is 450 kilo meter from Delhi to Ludhiana.
Driver told me, he will also charge me for his return journey, although he is dropping us in Ludhiana. That will cost us 7,800 rupee total.. (£93.00) Too expensive…..NO! Train…..will I get tickets at the Airport and will they have seat available? I am thinking of .... Stabdi 1st class??? |

The Shatabdi can be booked online and the ticket printed on your home printer.
Train 2029 (2031 on Wednesdays) departs New Delhi station daily at 07:20 and gets to Ludhiana at 11:14. Executive chair class will cost Rs 960 (about £14) per person. Some tickets are held back for 'morning of departure' sale and will be available from a special kiosk on or near the departure platform, however, with home printing available, there's no reason to rely on this method (and the risks involved).

Last month I paid Rs4000 in a newer Safari with A/C from village 18 km from Phagwara to Delhi Airport. You are definitely being quoted too much.
Depending on your arrival time in Delhi Shatabdi's are 7 AM and 4 PM departure, my preference would be Shatabdi A/C Chair class. Agreed that it is a bit of a hassle to get to station and then at the destination station to home but the ride is far more comfortable on the train. Train is much faster in terms of travel time. It is better to arrange for a taxi to come from Panjab to pick you up then get a taxi in Delhi.

In my opinion, the train takes way too long to go to ludhiana, and why deal with the hassle of tickets when you dont really have to? I think that the best thing to do is just take the bus. I have made this trip by bus about 10 times, and I have never seen it too crowded. It may take about 6-7 hours, but it is really not a bad bus trip compared to some of the others. Especially given that NH-1, on which it travels, is probably the best highway in the entire nation, its really painless. The cost is about rs40-60. To do this, you can take the new Delhi metro straight to the bus terminus. Exit the station on the Mc.Donalds side, go down to the lower level of the terminus, and proceed to (I think) departure area 15. The buses leave every 10 minutes.

Travel by BUS from Delhi to LUDHIANA is easy-you can get bus from ISBT NEW DELHI. You have to reach ISBT from airport which you can easily do by getting PRE-PAID taxi service from airport.
I still suggest that train travel is comfortable-use: http://www.irctc.co.in/ but if you wish to travel in night and in bus..take care.. 1. Do not eat or share drink with anyone !! |
