Life in Punjab

Hello. Does anyone have anything to share about living in Punjab? I would be interested to speak with anyone who has spent a considerable amount of time there and was not just passing through. Thanks.

Punjab is a bit state, and a lot will depend on the exact city or town one wants to stay in.

Spent about a month in Jullundur several years ago.

Life was good, nice and relaxed. Plenty of things to see and do. Dogs, farm animals etc to play with. Lots of bad things as well such as drugs, prostitutes etc but I kept away from the vice.

Thanks for your reply. What about internet? Available in these locations or not. And if so, is it just dial up? Reason I was asking was maybe to take online classes if possible. If not, that's ok, too. Are the people friendly? Is it true that you need a man to get important things done for you like paperwork? Any other info would be helpful. Thanks.

Lots of cyber cafe type places in Jullundur, they are usually called IT Centre, Computer Centre etc. The connections vary from dial up to very poor GPRS connections via mobile phones. I never came across any proper broadband type connections. Even in Chandigarh (in a very large hotel) they only had a dial up connection.

People are friendly enough.

What do you mean with regards to paperwork ? I think the same is true all over India, there is always someone who wants their palm greased. However if you are sending your kids for education then if they are under 16 then there is no need to register their stay etc. People will tell you that the kids need to Register with Foreigners Registration Office (FRO)/ Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) etc but this is nonesense.
Children below the age of 16 are exempt and do not need to register.

Jalandhar's a bit city and stuff like internet is not going to be a problem. You can expect broadband.

If by mjan you mean a tout of some description then that would depend on your paperwork...if you are asking with respect to having a 'contact' then that always helps irrespective.
