Learning Dhol in Punjab
I became interested in the dhol a little while back. I think it is an amazing instrument and I have learned all that I can over the internet, which is suprisingly a good amount as far as basics go. I have also taught myself a few things.
One problem is that I have never taken lessons and cannot find a teacher in my area. I know for a fact that there are dholis in my area...but, unlike them, I have no cultural connection the drum at all, so if there are teachers, it's not like I would stumble upon them in my group of peers. I am planning on going to India in January and would LOVE to hone my skills on the dhol. Does anyone know of anywhere where a foreigner can find get some lessons on the dhol in Punjab? I was hoping to go through about 2 weeks of intensive study...meaning a couple of hours of lessons every day. Any help would greatly be appreciated!!! |

Punjab, Haryana and Delhi is also a very good option. I am not sure about the 'official teacher', but near my place, there are lot of Dholis who keep on practicing (the low end of spectrum guys, who play in weddings and all)..
