Julundhar with a child

Hi we are set to go on our trip in Oct and we'll be staying in Julundhar where my in-laws just purchased a home! Thank god for that otherwise we would of ended up in the village as usual!

Anyhow I was wondering if anyone knows what the best method or how the locals carry there children. My son will be 16 months old and is very active little boy! I was thinking a carrier but I don't want to look too out of place...what about a stroller?

Anybody have any ideas!????

Jullundhar is one of my favourite Punjabi cities (I rate it well above Chandigarh ).

I think it will be a bit hard using a stroller. The pavements where they do exist are in a bit of a state. Just try walking from the Radisson towards Wimpi and you will understand what I am saying.

If you are physically fit carry the kid. My nephew went to India when he was about 14 months old. The stroller was soon discarded and he was carried everywhere (not fun for the person carrying).

Yeah, I'm afraid to say you can forget the stroller (and it won't make you look any less out of place. A carrier will get a lot of stares but you'll get that anyway, presumably. Try to forget that and do what works best for you. That said, I ended up carrying my two-year old around in my arms anyway...

BTW, not to disparage Jullundhar, but (IMO) Chandigarh is one of the best cities in India, forget about just Punjab.

A carrier works out much better!! It also got a lot of women bold enough to go up to a male and compliment me on using the device (a backpack baby carrier). When they hit 40 pounds and knee you its time for them to earn their keep by walking..

Got to go off topic. Yes Chandigarh is great if you love concrete monstrosities devoid of any culture/soul. Jullundhar is a proper Punjabi city with hustle and bustle. End of the day it is down to your perceived perception of what makes a great city. Concrete east European/soviet block planned cities just do nothing for me.

No NO...no strollers here...either you carry kid yourself OR hire someone to carry.
OR hire small car like Maruti 800 which can wave through crowds and steerts of Jalandhar.
