Its not allowed near the religious places, though available at places otherwise. Try Crystal restaurant, it has good cuisine and serves liquor at the dining area.

The Grand Hotel (near the Railway Station) has a half-decent bar with Kingfisher on tap. It's been a couple years since I was there, however...

Amritsar, my friend, is in the state of Punjab which has the largest consumption of liquor in the country. so i dont think u'd find any difficulty finding beer. ![]() |

This thread reminds me of a line in the film Dev D. The main character asks his Punjabi driver if he drinks liquor. The driver responds "Like a fish". I think this would be a common sentiment among Punjabis, especially those not extremely religious.
Also, Punjab is home to the Patiala peg; almost double the size of a regular shot/glass of liquor. Bottoms up! |

Although the thread responses have stopped coming, i couldnt stop myself from posting this news headline i read in Chandigarh Tribune a few days back:
Liquor addiction spreading in Punjab and Chandigarh: City has more liquor vendors than all govt medical dispensaries and high schools combined. ![]() |
