Question information request

Hi all. I am just so glad i found this site! I was looking around at " tour operated" sites to india and just couldnt commit to a package trip!

My parents are from punjab and i am hope to travel across with them in /March. I have been to punjab, shimla, Kashmir(years ago!) but all the travel was 'safe' driver and hire car etc. In my life time i want to see as much of india as possible. At present i have only a handful of weeks. I will be travelling thru from punjab to delhi - agar and would like to do rajasthan. I need a starting point. My research only began today and finding this forum has been and will be very valuable.

I would like to do the journey via train and as i sit here i wonder if i have the confidence to do it!! I just want to jump in and do it...and see what i can of rajasthan( i have only driven through it once...and feel in love with the 'romance' of it all!)

I am bringing my partner with me who has never been to india before. He is convinced i am an expert in Indian travel. I dont think he realizes that having spent a couple of weeks chillin in punjab makes me no expert!!!

Any tips on traveling around rajasthan...and yes there is a budget!!

train goes all the heck over RJ!
i dunno if it's the cheepest way, but an Indrail pass might be worth it if you think you're mostly training it, and it would give you the freedom to go more or less when you want- IRP's get first crack at any unused quotas when they make up the seating chart.
