Golden Temple Amritsar

When in India next time REMEMBER to go to Amritsar (Punjab) to see The Golden Temple. Its has arguably, the most serene environment one can get anywhere.
The Complex is huge with a beautiful Sarovar(pool) and lots of Sikh Temples around.
You can also visit Wagah Border and watch the evening Flag Parade, (thats the border post between India & Pak). Its a must see.
See a pic of Golden Temple (Gurudwara Harmandir Sahib)

Great place shame the upkeep is really bad. The large Maharajah Rhunjeet Singh minarets are now looking like Muslim minarets after being clad in marble type material. The actual Goldent Temple had very poor re plating work done by some Sikh group form Birmingham. The inner marble structure is now in danger of destruction.

The Darshani Deori is falling to bits. Centuries old wall paintings have been whitewashed.

The decision to give the restoration work to a Uk based group was a blunder.
There are many rajasthani workmen whose ancestors did the original work. These people have kept that work alive but the work was given to some UK based group just because funding was coming from there for restoration.
Those who have not seen it till date should see it before all the Minakari and other work done on the Marbles is whitewashed.
