Driver & Car needed in Moga, Punjab

Hello People,

Stuck in Moga relying on relatives for transport. Wanted to get a driver and car for the day to travel between here and Ludhianna etc. Anyone know of any companies around here that can provide this service and what I'm looking to pay?

Cheers

I used to have similar problems when I was younger and used to stay with my relatives in Jullundur. In the end it became such a bother that I told them that although I appreciated their hospitality I would prefer to hire my own car and driver etc. So we went to a taxi stand and hired a car and they got the idea that this is what I preferred and it was never a problem again. Eventually we got our own car and we just hire a driver when needed now.

I would tell them that you want to hire a car and driver as you have a few things to sort out. Then go to the local taxi stand and negotiate. Check the car you hire is working properly and has proper tyres (with tread and not dodgy remoulds) and a decent spare tyre, jack etc etc.

Rates do vary between towns but for a hire term of a 7+ days I would pay a fixed daily rental and for the petrol. Check the amount of petrol in the car when the driver leaves and mileage as it is not unknown for petrol to be siphoned off and sold. The last time I hired in Punjab it was a Tata Indica and it cost about RS800 a day + petrol. That included the driver, bigger vehicles will cost more. They may just charge you a fixed price for the trip to Ludhiana. Other people charge per KM.

Thanks Shere. The one relative we first used to stay with and also stayed with intitially this time always makes us pay for everything. My mother always came before and told him to keep a tab and she'd pay it at the end of the trip. When I came with her one year I realised he was just trumping up the figures. He also controls everything we do and gives absolutely no information on anything.
Then when any of us need a ride somewhere he's busy or got something realy important, yet I've never seen it. Every appointment we have he makes us late and then muscles his way into everyone we go to meet by getting their contact numbers.

We don't get hospitality....we pay for it all including a fat wad towards actually staying. I want to get out of this reliance on others. Maybe even look to buy a property (apartment?) I know prices have dropped considerably but wonder if they'll keep dropping.

But enough of my angst...I'll check out those taxis...cheers.

Holidays like that become bit of a ordeal and you do not enjoy much. Is he a relative ? If he is then get your mum to phone him and say the kids want to hire their own car etc.

I stayed with one relative and his wife used to polish off my bottled water and chocolates at night then in the morning claim the kids had drunk/eat everything. I would not mind if it was a one off or if it was the kids but when it happens everyday you know they are taking liberties (plus she had the build of a water bufflao so I knew she was thieving all my chocolates).

I have relatives similar to the one you have described. Best thing I ever did wa not take them into confidence and go where I wanted whenever. Now they do not bother me and know when I say I am leaving at 4 in the morning then that is what I will be doing. A few times I asked that we go to the Golden Temple early in the morning, come 10am we would still be at their house and they would just be having a shower, they would hire the worst car ever with seriously dodgy remoulds and it would breakdown on the journey a few times. Now I tell our driver we are leaving at 4am and the guy is always ready on time. We give the driver a bit extra (1000RS or so) and this keeps him sweet till the next trip.

Running late seems to be a habit here. Yet the first thing they tell YOU is to get up really early. So, you're up and ready and they're all delaying. Every decision is left to the last minute. And even that decision has to be made with 5 commitee meetings.

Go to local taxi stand. Every city in PB has one.
If you can't find one at Moga, try near Aarti Cinema in Ludhiana. Big taxi stand there.
Rates are negotiable so don't settle for more than 8-9rs./km

errr..am too late replying here. But just for information sake, I use services of couple of drivers who are kind and non-drinkers. If I can be of help next time, let me know I will pass you information because its more about reliability as I have seen during earlier trips.
