Day trip to Chandigarh and Pinjore
Hi
We are planning for a day trip to Chandigarh and may be Pinjore. Please suggest which all places must be visited in Chandigarh.. How are the following places? Are these places really worth visiting and good tourist destinations for outsiders? Capitol Leisure Park Rock Garden Rose Garden Sukhana Lake Also how is Pinjore Garden? Is it worth travelling to Pinjore from Chandigarh? |

Capitol, Rock garden & Sukhna Lake are nearby & worth seeing. But Rose Garden is just an ordinary Park...not much Roses this season. Sec 17 Market is also good. Panjab Univesity is also a good piece of Architecture. Well Pinjore is Good but only in Evening time & its just 1 hr away from City Centre. Btw How you are Travelling ?

I agree with Pathankot, Pinjore gardens is much better in the evening with the lighting.
There is very little of interest in CHD, take the opportunity and head towards Kasauli for a more relaxing break. |

Thanks Pathankot and Shere..
We will be roaming in the city in our own car... So commute should not be a big problem... I am mainly interested in knowing must visit places in Chandigarh. I could gather some feedback about Pinjore Garden in this forum itself and it seems that it can be visited if time permits however there is nothing great.. Is there any other place with in the city (can not travel to Kasauli / distant places due to shortage of time)? |

Pinjore gardens at night offers a lot more than anything in CHD. TBH with you CHD is quite a bore, the gardens are nothing special. I even found the rock garden a complete bore and failed to understand what all the fuss was about, we used to make similar things out of rubbish in nursery although we did not use toilet seats. The novelty of peddling a craft around the lake soon wears off. Sector 17 shopping area is nothing much compared to most new malls. The clubs and pubs look like throw backs to the 1970s.
Its up to you at the end of the day but Kasauli is not that far away. Hour and half maximum and it beats CHD anyday of the week. |

Thanks Shere for your inputs... I will definitely cover Kasauli and Chail sometime later... Actually this time we will be going to chandigarh from Ambala and would have only 9 hours (11 AM - 8 PM) to spend in Chandigarh / Pinjore as we have to return back to Ambala same day... So combining Kasauli this time might prove hectic and we might not enjoy decent time at any of the places.. :-)
Nevertheless would plan to visit Kasuali and Chail sooner whenever time permits.. Now keeping in mind that we have around 9 hours to spend in Chandigarh / Pinjore and we have our own vehicle, which all places you would recommend in the order of preference? :-) |

Lake, Rock Garden, Sector 17 shopping area Lots of other gardens. |
