Amritsar

I've wanted to go to Amritsar for so many years and finally have the chance to visit this August/September when I'm on a month long trip to India. I obviously want to see the Golden Temple and Jallianwalla Bagh as well as see the Wagah Border and the border ceremony. I will be most probably coming from Delhi.

My questions are-

What is the best way to get from Delhi to Amritsar? Cheapest if possible?
How long should I stay in Amritsar?
Can you recommend any places to stay? I was thinking of staying at the Gurudwara itself- has anyone had any experiences of it?
Are there any wonderful places nearby that are worth a trip after I've seen Amritsar?

Many thanks and apologies for bombarding everyone with lots of questions!!

1. Many Trains & Buses all cheap
2. Depends on you 2 days are enough
3. Gurudwara has rooms but they fill up fast.
4. There are many budget places in front of the Golden Temple.
5. Wagah Border is good excursion.

Our Day to Amritsar involved a overnight train from Delhi and getting the a train back to Delhi some 16 hours later it gave us enough time to do all we wanted to do in Amritsar the Golden Temple and its people are by far the best thing I have done on the overnight train you reach Amritsar ( Temple)at 5am and its still in darkness wow it brought a tear down my face what a sight compared to the Taj The Golden Temple is my wonder of the world and would be happy to get the chance to one day visit it again but as the world is getting smaller and there so much to see it may be my last time visiting India ( we will see)
