why not stay in Golden Temple?
In Amritsar, I prefer to stay in the Gurdwara Golden Temple complex itself....a clean accomodation (non A/c).
Listening 'shabad-kirtan' (the gurdwara recitals) is what I like as well. At the end of the stay donate whatever you wish to. |

I agree with ashish, to stay in the Gurdwara, and experience the hospitality of the Sikh community, even just for one night, is something you will remember.

I don't think anyone will ask to see a marriage certificate! I would think they would give you a double room.
I stayed with my girlfriend (now my wife) there 38 years ago. Has anyone got more up to date info? ![]() |

I have stayed with my family i.e. wife and kid we were also give a room to stay it was 2 years back. (My wife has been asking me to go again..do'nt know when we will be able to go)
I have seen quite a few foreigners in the temple complex (I am not sure if they were staying there though) Alan is right, they are not likely to ask for marriage certificate..but you will have to show (maybe even say if asked) that your girlfriend is your wife....a suggestion which holds for any other place as well Follow the temple decorum and it should be alright, also suggest you visit a couple of Sikh temples in Delhi. That will give you an idea of customs like 'covering the head', 'removing shoes' , 'how to take the prasad' etc. Should you require more info. don't hesitate, I answer all my PMs |

No problem
Hola!
I was in Amristar in August 2003 with my girlfriend and two friends more (both girls) we were in the gurdwara rooms and nobody ask anything to us, and we were sleeping all four in the same room. So I think you don't have to worry about being in the same room with your girlfriend... The experience was nice althought it was really hot and humid on that season... I really enjoyed walking around the golden temple and chat with locals and pilgrims. |

If the temple doesn't work out, go to Mrs Bandhari's guest house in the cantonement. Not too cheap, but it has beautiful gardens, serves a great meal, even has a swimming pool, playground (had my kids with me) and a couple of dogs roaming around. It was very cozy (not hotel-ish) and offered to arrange a ride to the border for the cermony if we wanted. Sort of a slice of the raj, if that appeals...

hi lobo,
when are you going to amritsar?as ashis has stated that staying in golden temple is an experience of its own kind, but there will be a problem,if you`re a smoker or would like to have a drink.the tobacco and the alcohalic drinks aren`t allowed there. if you google for: mrs.bhandari`s guesthouse, amritsar the first result takes you to her website.the place seems to be nice but not really a budget accomodation. take care. malvin ps.pm me if you plan to visit chandigarh as well. |

Which one to stay in
Hi all, there appears to be five different places to stay in the Golden Temple, which would be best, I am a female travelling by myself.
