Thanks - sounds like a plan, I could probably take Sammy on and win - especially after a train trip from Delhi and with a tired 12 year old in tow! The view of the temple is definitely worth it I'd say - but then... water buffalo are very appealing.. perhaps a good backup option. I wonder if Amritsar is cold in January?

So how many nights in Amritsar?

Just to pick this thread up again rather than start a new one - how many days would you spend in Amritsar? We're going to and from Delhi - so we'd catch the morning train, and then either the next evening train, or spend another whole day and night and catch the evening train the day after back to Delhi...

I was thinking we could spend the afternoon wandering, go to the border ceremony, come back & see the golden temple at night, spend the next day in the temple and around Amritsar and catch the 5pm train back to Delhi - would that be sufficient time? That way we could just take a small overnight bag and have another day in Delhi.

My reccommendation is to say at least two whole days in Amritsar. There are other things/temples to visit in town.

2 days which may mean three nights if you can afford the time. Do visit Wagah/Attari border - interesting. . There's several threads on it] And walk around Amritsar. It's a pleasant place to be.

Hi Sadhu, just wondering with Mrs Bhandari's Guest House, how was your experience there? I'm an Australia girl who'll be travelling in Amritsar & hopefully to Dharamasala as well for a week. I saw on the Guest House's website that they can organise transport from Amritsar to Dharamasala and back. Just wondering if you've tried them or can recommend any good ones? thanks!
