Accom in Amritsar, near centre, suggestions ???

Travelling with the inlaws this time so we need a nice comfy mid range guest house or hotel near the centre of Amritsar, not too far from the sights. Any suggestions appreciated

We stayed in the CJ International two years ago. It is very convenient for walking to the Golden Temple. You can even leave you shoes in your room and just walk across the street and avoid the shoe minder.

Do get an upgraded room on the upper floor. The rooms are very large - one had a king bed, one had a king and (I think) a double, and one had what looked like 2 double beds and a sofa bed. These 3 "suites" all shared an enclosed balcony from which you could view the temple and photograph it.

Take a look at our replies on this thread. It gives info on how to get a good deal from the manager.

Amritsar accom

The standard IndiaMike word of caution - don't trust hotel website photos. We looked at the photo of the view from top of the CJ International. So far as we can make out they must have got that shot by shinnying up a flagpole atop an inaccessible portion of the roof. When we were there in winter the roof terrace was kept locked. We managed to get out one morning when it had inadvertently been left open and we got nothing like the view in the website photo.

We are attaching a few photos from the top floor balcony taken one rainy morning. Still nothing to sneeze at, but not quite so whizz bang. Note in the closeup of the Golden Temple that your view is partially obstructed by one of the perimeter buildings.

Nice views in any case. Should not expect the balcony to be accessable in winter when we go there.

Thanks

Actually, the balcony is always accessible from the three top floor suites. (I believe there are similar balconies for the lower floors; but they aren't high enough to get as good a view.)

It's the roof terrace that is closed in winter.
