How about visiting Mulshi ?
Mulshi is to the west side of Pune (around 45 km), Lonavala & Lavasa are also nearby. Mulshi dam and the surrounding area full of natural beauties .You can also visit some forts nearby.Tamhani ghat is also at short distance from Mulshi. You can also consider Panshet as an option if you want to visit waterbody area which not very far from Pune. Anther good option is to visit Bhimashankar/Ahupe/Dimba dam & Malshej Ghat region.Bhimashankar is around 140 km from Pune . Area around Bhimashankar declared as Bhimashankar wildlife sanctuary.Thick jungle in this area. Some wild animals can also be spotted here. |

Thanks Swapnil
Bhimashankar sounds interesting, I will check it out. Malshej is famous for a place to get drunk during monsoon. While Panshet is just a days outing not a weekendgateway. I did venture towards tamhni ghat, is good but did not find much to do around it as most of the land near water is restricted and owned by TATA. |

Some of the edges of Mulshi Lake are accessible from the road. You can go and dip your feet in the water
but Tata Power people patrol the area, so be careful. |

Diveagar- maybe around 5-6hrs from mumbai on konkan coast. Really good beaches, towards the end the beaches are virtually crowd free.
Pavana dam area- Some 1/2hr from lonavala. A must visit during monsoons. Don't know about staying options but there might be some. Find some info about bhandardara, heard it's a nice place. |

Mulshi has amazing views of the lake even if you are not able to stay by the lake. There are places around the lake which are really good.
Just 2hrs from mulshi, you are at diveagar. I can give you the no. of a nice place surrounded by palm, coconut and manggo orchards at diveagar from wheree the beach is just at 2min and it's at the end of the village so don't expect much crowd. |

You can also goto Shrivardhan which is around 150 kms from Pune. Diveagar is 17kms from Shrivardhan.
From Shrivardhan you can goto Harihareshwar, Diveagar, Baghmandala. MTDC has a resort in Harihareshwar. The road is full of twists and turns once you take a right from Mangaon. It would be bad for some strecthes in between. |

Roads are good to dive agar.
I don't think you cross shrivardhan while going to diveagar. It's 150 km from pune. |

Correction: The road to Dive Agar passes through Shrivardhan. The roads are decent. Potholed in some places. The coastal drive to Dive Agar is quite amazing.
Check out the photos at http://www.soumya.org/genesis/2009/0...rivardhan.html |
