Pune or Solapur

I will travel from Mumbai to Raichur by train and would like to make a one day stopover in Pune or in Solapur.
Can't find much travel info about Solapur.
I love markets, temples and an occasional beer, ...
What would be the most interesting stopover in your opinion ?

Solapur! Not much except for those of who love a good sakhar karkhana or Maharashtrian farmers (I do!). There is a good temple if that is your thing some distance away, Pandhrapur if my fading memory lasts. The Footprints has a short mention of it. Pune is vastly more cosmopolitan. Look for that under threads here..

Sholapur has a siddeshwar temple and a fort (best avoided, the fort at least, and even the temple) and, yes, a market.

If you don't mind some travel, consider Bijapur. 2 hrs drive from Sholapur. 100km.

It wasn't much of a fort, to begin with, and what was left was falling apart.

This was a couple of years ago. It may have fallen by now

That's a good reason to avoid it

Siddheshwar Temple

The temple in Solapur I believe is worth a visit. Have a look at it. There you could pass time feeding the fish in the surrounding pond.
