20) Bhuleshwar: This is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located about 45 kms. from Pune. There is a diversion towards this temple from Yavat which is located on the Pune Solapur highway. It has been declared a protected monument. But most of the stone idols lie in ruins. But this temple is located in idyllic surroundings.

Some fields with cabbage & lovely pomegranate trees which we saw on our way from Bhuleshwar to Jejuri. This is a country road & not any highway. But its absolutely wonderful.

21) Jejuri: This place is located 50 kms from Pune. This is a temple dedicated to Lord Khandoba, a deity of the dhangar tribe in Maharashtra. But avoid going there on weekends or holidays. This place is absolutely swarming with people on holidays.

22) Baramotichi Vihir
While chatting with friends I happened to hear about a stepwell near Satara. So when I decided to go to Kolhapur I took a detour just before Satara. The stepwell is located near Limb gaon (village). We have to take the road towards Nagewadi village before Satara on the NH4 leading from Pune to Kolhapur. This road leads straight to the stepwell otherwise called as ‘Baramotichi Vihir’. The well was built by Virubai, the dasi-queen of Chattrapati Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur. It is still in excellent condition though not yet protected by the Archeological Survey Of India. It is worth a visit & would prove to be an excellent day trip for travelers from Pune. Mr. Ravi Varnekar, who resides just near to the well proved to be an excellent guide during our visit. He can be contacted on 09763529573 . The well was used to supply water to 3500 varieties of mango trees during the reign of Shahu Maharaj. It is still used to supply water to the near by fields using pumps. During the old days the well was equipped with 15 pulleys out of which 12 were operational to draw water. Hence the name ‘Baramotichi’.
Near Limb village there is a small temple called as ‘Koteshwar’. This temple is located in the river bed but easily accessible by road. This temple enjoys a very picturesque location. The temple is a must visit along with the stepwell.

23) Pashan Lake
Pashan lake is an artificial Lake near the armament estate in Pashan area. This lake attracts a lot of migratory birds and is a popular spot for bird watchers. There is a narrow trail along the lake. This trail is the best place for bird watching and to capture good snaps.

A couple of questions from this very fine report:

Is the Kelkar museum in its first location or has it been moved?

Do you know the name of the temple that is just off the Main Deccan Gymkhana area where one steps down into the temple area?

Yes Edwardseco. The kelkar museum is still operating from its old location off Bajirao road. It is supposed to shift to a new place near Pirangut. The name of the temple off the main deccan gymkhana area is the Panchaleshwar temple. It is a Shiva temple in the Khandoji Baba chowk.

My immense gratitude for two places that are of great sentimental value to me. The former I visited while the Raja was still alive and spent a wonderful day with his family.

The latter was where a young lady reached up to ring the bell as she entered. I decided there that I should endeavor to marry that stunning women what ever the effort. Its been a lot of years since then..

24) Neelkantheshwar Temple: Just a few months ago I happened to visit the serene Neelkantheshwar temple near Pune. This temple is located around 40 kms. from Pune. One has to take the road from Warje which is located at the outskirts of Pune. On the way one comes across landmarks such as Peacock bay & Splendour Country Club. On passing the Splendour Country Club there is a signboard indicating 'Shree Kshetra Neelkantheswar'. The detour to the left leads straight to the temple. This lesser known Shiva temple offers amazing views of the catchment area of Panshet dam, a major source of water supply to Pune city. Since it is located atop a small hillock, there is a slightly steep ascent to reach the temple. Elderly people may find this a little tiring. But the steep climb becomes worth the effort once you reach the temple & start enjoying the amazing vistas. This temple is surrounded by a number of statues of different deities perhaps five hundred in numbers. There are also statues depicting different tales from the epic 'Mahabharata'.
