1] There are Pvt. as well as govt. buses from Pune. Taxis are also easily available.
2] Yes they are very safe.
3] Approx. 3 - 4 hrs.
4] Start just before the daylight breaks. Around 6 AM.

Try Mulshi

If you are looking for a very quiet and green place, try the backwaters of the Mulshi dam. Am not sure if its raining right now at Pune, but if it is, Mulshi can be a very pretty place. Especially the waterfalls and the lake itself. Its ideal for just being somewhere green, quiet and beautiful and reading a book. It also has a naturopathy resort called Kare, which is located on a hilltop but well, is pretty expensive

There are a couple of other resorts in Mulshi just by the lake. Since the lake is a private property, owned by the Tatas, the area is not commercial at all.

It takes around 70 minutes to drive down to Mulshi, the road is fairly good overall, with a few bad patches in between. The route is not too safe very early in the morning or late at night.

If you do plan to stay at Mulshi, book your rooms in advance as there are not too many rooms at these resorts.

Mod Note: Enjoyt.p. - I have taken the 'bold' out of most of your post so that it now makes sense. There is no need to write most of your post in 'bold' script. Because our members come from all over the world, and not all know SMS text language, can you please write your posts in full English i.e. instead of 'u' write 'you'.

Let me add three or four other places:

1. Sambhaji Park on the other side of the Mula river, near the Deccan - nicest bhel( apart from कल्पना (Kalpana Bhel beside SP College) ) there IMO; just upriver from there would be the big hotel that ex-chief minister, Shiv Sena boss, Manohar Joshi owns.. Further up, you'll find a नीरा विक्रि केन्द्र - a little trailer where somebody sells "Nira" - a coconut-water based stuff that's difficult to find since its sale is strictly regulated for ancient laws about prohibition reasons - so I think anyway. - Its definitely not intoxicating so I assume its regulated since its a starter in the process of making तादी ({palm}toddy).

There's also a causeway across the river which you can cross if the river is low - and if you do that will take you into very old parts of Pune.

2. Peshwe Park and Saras Baag are no doubt in your frame already, since they are at the bottom of Parvati Hill.

3. Bund Gardens on the other side of the railway station - watching the river flow over the bund is fun - but the bund was broken through last I checked in 2005. There might be elephant rides there !

4. Keeping going that side of the city and you come to येरावडा (Yerawada)prison. The architecture is pretty forbidding - People like Savarkar and Ambedkar who were important political figures in the Independence thang were imprisoned there. In contrast, Gandhi was interned at the Aga Khan palace, also in Pune. Go figure.

4. You'll no doubt be in the "Camp" area - NOT an area for gays ! its where the Raj's soldiers and officers originally "camped". The Cantonment | Camp area has changed drastically IMO because of the whole Rajneesh thing, but so it goes - Enjoy that too.

Have a great time - more as I recall other oddball non touristy things.

travelzeal,

You can also visit the Lonavala and Khandala hill stations which are infact very near to Pune and can be covered within one day. There are one dam called Bhushi as well as lakes. There are local trains going to Lonavala and also taxi operators who can take you there as a package. Ping back if you need more inputs.

You can visit Harihareshwar,5 hrs from pune. It has got a couple of good beaches. You can go enroute Mulshi -Tahminighat which is quite beautiful.
Pune as a city is very dusty now and has nothing special to offer. BTW Matheran is another good option for a Hill Station.

One more nice resort with pvt. waterfall
http://www.mavalsrushti.com/
Rooms & food is strictly O.K. but nature wise it's excellent. The waterfall is too good. But it's only seasonal during monsoons. It can also be visited as one day trip but advance booking is needed.
