Hi,

My wife and me will arrive in Pune on the night of 15th February,2013 by flight and will be staying at a relative`s place in Vishrantvadi for two days, i.e 16th and 17th. We then plan to visit Mumbai and stay at another relative`s house in Borivali (east) for two more days i.e, 18th and 19th. Our return flight to Bangalore is from Pune again at 17:10 on the 20th. This is our brief itinerary. Ok, so be prepared for the barrage of questions below -

1) What are the places that we can and should visit in Pune for the two days(16th,17th) + the last day in Pune(20th), without missing our flight? Would one day be sufficient for Mahabaleshwar, and what are the sights there? Also, which one would be a better place if we have to pick one, Mahabaleshwar or Alibaug?

2) We plan to leave for Borivali(Mumbai) from Vishrantvadi(Pune), very early in the morning of 18th. What is the best option for this, train or bus? In any case , which would be the nearest railway station or bus station to Borivali? Which option would take less time, since we would like to maximise the time we have for sightseeing?

3) I would also like to know any good restaurant that serves seafood in Pune, that IM members would recommend?

I will have more queries on this based on the responses. Thanks for all your patience and help.

Regards,
Ashok

2. There are direct buses from Swargate and Pune bus depot near railway station for Borivali. That should be the best option.

Hi Ashok

The places you visit are dependent on your interest. From pune, I can think of a few spots that can be done as day trips:
a) Karla / Bhaja caves. Midway between Mumbai and Pune (near Khandala from what i recall), and closer to the old highway. I suspect you'd need a car for the drive then.
b) There's no comparison between Alibaug and Mahabaleshwar. Seabeach vs hills!
c) If you're inclined to view historical treasures, Raja Dinakar Kelkar museum in Pune is well worth the time. I believe it's been recently revamped. Details here: http://www.rajakelkarmuseum.com/

Seafood restaurant

I would recommend Mahesh Lunch Home on Moledina road, Camp for seafood! (That's what my fish-loving friends dream of....all I have at that place is their amazing Sol Kadhi)

Hi All,

Thank you for your replies. I plan to travel from Pune to Mumbai on the morning of the 18th. I heard that the Shivneri buses are a convenient option for this. When I logon to the MSRTC site to book tickets for this journey, I see a lot of options for the boarding and alighting point, and am confused. Could someone let me know which would be the closest boarding point for Vishrantwadi? Also, where do I need to get down in Mumbai, if my destination is Borivali (east)?

Regards,
Ashok

The Shivneri bus most probably goes till Dadar from where you will have to take a cab or a local train for Borivali. Instead of that as mentioned earlier take a Borivali bound bus and get down at the last stop. Then take a auto to your relatives place.

Hi,

There has been a slight change of plan in our itinerary. Please see the below -

15th February(Friday) : Arrive in Pune by the late night flight.
16th February(Saturday) : Leave for Alibag from Pune. Do some sightseeing there, and catch the ferry to Mumbai by late evening.
17th February(Sunday) and 18th February(Monday) : in mumbai
19th February(Tuesday) : Leave from Mumbai to Pune by cab(non ac indica).
20th February(Wednesda): pune local sightseeing, and catch evening flight back to Bangalore (17:20 indigo)

My questions -

1) Where can I get buses for Alibag from pune? How much time do they take? Once at Alibag, how do we go about exploring the place?
2) How much time would the ferry take to reach Mumbai?
3) On the 19th, how early should we leave from Mumbai, if we plan to visit Lonavla and Khandala enroute and plan to see the sound and light show at Shaniwarvada? what would be the approximate fare for a mumbai-pune drop, with the additional stops on an indica (non ac)?
4) What are the places I can plan to see on the 20th, keeping in mind our flight at 17:20(we`ll be at vishrantwadi, which I gather is quite close to the airport). Should I book a cab for the same or an autorickshaw(what will be the cab charge approximately?)

Any other inputs welcome.

Regards,
Ashok
