Natural childbirth in Pune???

Hi, I'm an American currently living in Pune with my family. I'm pregnant and want to have a natural birth -- preferably with a midwife, but a doc who is cool with the midwifery model would be fine too. Does anyone know if this is a possibility? Anyone know of a midwife in Pune? I'm open to a homebirth -- I think. I am a bit concerned about the distance (and horrible roads/traffic) to a hospital in case of emergency. A birth center or private hospital would be best if I could find a practitioner who believes in natural (no meds/very minimal to no intervention) birth. Thanks in advance to anyone who has info about this...

Hi,

"Total natural" childbirth is little unusual in urban areas in India. You could talk to your doc & make him/her understand that you want all natural birth. I'm sure they will help you. My wife & me got our son 3 months back & that was almost natural. The doc was very good & she didn't intervene much with medicines.

The good part of being in the hospital is that in case of "emergency" they can at least provide medication. You could opt of "in-house" delivery with a midwife & mostly in Indian villages, that's how they do. But I doubt that you'll get some good mid-wife in cities like Pune !!

Going to hospital at "that" time might be a problem but the traffic is not that bad here, though if you don't have a car it might be a trouble. But if you choose your hospital near to the place you live, I think that's not as bad.

I dont think your doctor will allow you to go to hospital in case of emergency, but the doctors will fix / predict a delivery date, and in advance you need to be admitted to the hospital.
