by the ASIAD BUS or luxuty coach which costs around 160 -200 it would take 4 hours.

by train from VT it would take a bit longer nearly 5 hours

you can..but believe it or not..it takes you longer than driving....

unless you live in slums close to the runway in bombay and right by the airport in pune, hop on the tail while its taxing... ..

the problem why driving takes you four hours is the time it takes to get on the expressway in bombay (new bombay to be exact) and the time after you get off the expressway in Pune. its like a breezy hour and half between the two cities in the nice new expressway... local roads once you get off it are a killer.

it all depends on wherr you destination point is in pune and where your starting point is in bombay. trains might come out better over roads and plane if your points are closer to the stations.

if u are going to commune

if u are going to the commune..ideally u would like to reach by 9.30 when their reg starts.

so the options are the 5 am deccan queen train from vt or the 5 am ASIAD bus near dadar east under the flyover, just head for the ASIAD bus stand( its a govt run service) as it is a punctual service which leaves every 20 mins irrespective of the bus filling up unlike the luxury coaches which fleece new comers sometimes.

The expressway is well worth a trip - where else will you see a three lane motorway with hairpin bends!

JamesW..I was curious, how often do you go to Mumbai? and by road or train?

I am moving to Mumbai shortly and was planning to visit Pune....I understand there is an international airport opened up in Pune now for direct flights....London..Pune/

A day visit to Pune would be what I was thinking...appreciate your experience....

well I used to ply on that road almost every weekend but not sure if I had noticed any hairpin turns.....was i sleeping in that Volvo?? well yes there are a lil sharp but certainly no hairpin turns at the Ghat area near Lonavala.....

well Martin....forget flying from Mumbai to Pune...Volvo from Dadar going to Pune Station wud help you go at an easy and comfortable pace... but yes if u unlucky u will have to spend say around 1 hour in the city itself...while the seats are being filled...but if u r not pressed for time...just sit back in in AC and enjoy the Hindi songs/movies going on...

AND DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING, NOT EVEN COURTESY, FROM ANY STRANGER ON THIS ROAD. Just be cautious on taking eatables/drinks from strangers if someone offers..no its not at all like dangerous and it does not happen often but just a word of caution I thot i shud give..NO FOOD/DRINKS FROM A STRANGER.. DO NOT EVEN OFFER YOURS!

I don't go that often, but when I do I go by road. The expressway makes the journey quite short, you spend as much time driving through Mumbai itself. The train will be a bit slower, but a perfectly acceptable alternative. I wouldn't bother flying between Mumabi and Pune - the distance is too short to make it worthwhile. Pune is technically an international airport but it only has two such flights: one to Dubai and another to Singapore. The Singapore flight isn't even direct - it goes through Hyderabad I think. It would be possible to have a day trip to Pune from Mumbai, but I would take at least a weekend otherwise it would be a very long day.

yea, perhaps!
I wud never have agreed but for this sat. picture ... one really do not feel those hairpin turns since its such a wide road....besides of course a slight pressure on the sides if observed keenly and are speeding up ur own car at say 130+

but yes there is one turn where one feels...o man, is this turn going to end if ever!!!

so, you in Pune. hope you are doing good in that maddening bikes' traffic there
